Root sbf'ed and battery dead

i think i had a bad gingerbread part 1 file and got stuck in bootloop and now battery is dead and wont charge. any help please or do i need to go ahead and order a new battery? does new batteries come charged?

take your battery to your local verizon store, be prepared to wait for a while, and have them charge it up, or find a friend with a droid x and do it that way, you need to always make sure your battery is at least 50% before you attempt any kind of flashing, or sbfing

yes sir! learned my lesson good. i think ill leave the new radio alone and just stick with liberty for now after i get it going again

$35 for a cable is still pretty hefty I think, especially when it's a cable you don't really need, it's more of a luxury/convenience item ;)

No more so than an extended battery or a case. You don't need them, but when they pull your butt out of the fire you are sure glad that you had them. If you plan on sticking with Motorola phones, then this is a good investment.

Well in my case an extended battery is more useful than that cable, and if you have an extended battery that means you also have a spare battery that you can charge with a battery wall charger that you can get on ebay for like $5-$6, a lot better than $35. Also, since I don't plan on sticking with Moto, it makes even less sense to me to get that cable ;)

Point taken, you also plan ahead. There are a lot of people that do not plan ahead. I plan on sticking with Moto, especially if the Google merger thing works out.

Cool, your point is valid too, and you are most likely right about people not planning ahead, but people should think ahead before doing things to their phones that can possibly brick them.

But, I think VS's advice should be followed here, make sure your battery has enough juice to do the job, though I suggest starting at 100%; once you are more experienced you can live a little more dangerously :D

As an eLearning Design/Developer I always train to the lowest common denominator. Most people have good intentions, but it is hard for people to plan for all of the possible outcomes, especially when they are not comfortable with the process. I took a lot of lumps when I first started flashing ROMs to my first Droid. Thankfully there are a lot of good people (wink, wink) on this forums (and others) that take the time to help.

though people dont plan ahead we all know this, but when you sbf guess what, you have a powersource that you can use for a moment to get your battery up to an acceptable level before you sbf, because your phone is plugged to your pc, just charge it with your pc while you get all your files prepared. doesnt take long to ensure your battery is at a decent level. some do not understand that common practice and in doing so develop a semi brick that cant be used til the battery is charged. no matter how many times we stress make sure you have a enough battery life before you attempt this, people dont really take the time to make sure they do, and think: "i can get by with it, it wont happen to me."

and sure enough it will happen. it doesnt take but 10 mins to make sure your battery is at the appropriate percentage to begin the sbf process. because there isnt a specific amount it eats every time, it eats different amounts each time.

sorry i missed this, you can flash the new radio, just make sure you have the appropriate battery health, if need be, sbf, and if your battery is taking a plunge, if your on a 2init rom, the flashable zip file for the updated radio is in the same thread that has the .602 file i believe, but im pretty sure you know how to install it so :)

i flashed the .602 and then went to recovery and tried to restore just data from backup from liberty gb .09 but did not work for some reason. i had sbf'ed back but, i guess i should have went to gb first before i done a full restore of liberty gb .09. so after that sbf again and done the gb 2 part process but part 1 installed really fast and i juts did not pay any attention to errors and done part 2 wiped dalvik and rebooted to just a bootloop and then battery was dead. a big whopping oops. but only 4 day x owner, im learning lol. the hard way can be the best way sometimes. i got lucky today because my stepmother's brotherinlaw has a droid x too, so he is going to loan me my battery while i sbf real quick ;) which also have ubuntu, so i dont have to wait forever with the yellow dots everytime. ok im done :) thanks Saint for all the info and i look forward to learning much more! im so glad my lg ally days are long gone ;)

its no problem bud, we are here to help.

just remember we are better technical support answerers than 611 from your verizon handset :p

just a suggestion to anyone with my problem, and im impatient to wait 1 more hour to get a friends battery or wait longer to charge mine. i had an old usb cable and butchered it and placed red wire to positive and black to negative to think battery was charged ( just uses usb power) and bam sbf'n again baby! i read this from here...

Need help, phone wont turn on/charge - Page 2

just to comfirm it works if anyone else needs this method and impatient like i am ;)

well after all that and the biggest trick is pulling battery.....wires lol and having to put them back on and stay while you go into recovery. after all that, i went to start and usually get a battery indicator saying 0% but i seen a big ? in the battery indicator. im hoping i didnt screw anything up! fingers crossed!!!

P3 has stated that the factory cable also works on Samsung devices and it also works on my DROID Incredible. So it does have some value outside of Moto devices.

well maybe not the best method of getting back because now i am at 2.3.340 which is awesome for now but just a qustion mark for battery and to boot up to this i had to leave wires on and put battery in and then after home screen, pull wires out. so now im thinking i messed the battery up or the connections :( it did tell me that i need to put a motorola battery in and mine was invalid

still invalid battery :( i guess i should have just waited because the guy came just a few minutes ago to lend me his battery lol. thats what i get for being impatient! i just hope that it is the battery and not anything else. i will be ordering a new battery tomoroow and see if that fixes it

yep thats what im thinking that it is not the battery and i messed something up when i butchered the usb cable. i made sure not to touch the wires together, and thought to be very careful. i found an extended battery which i already wanted to get and going to try that first before anything. i guess its time to stay at current and unroot and take off bootstrap and get ready to warranty this sucker :(

was reading up and seen alot of places that had posts about aftermarket batteries not being recognized and still will get the invalid battery message. anyone know if this is true? if so then i guess, one more time of wires to terminals and getting rid of root z4 and bootstrap recovery and warranty. which i hope motorola will comply because i just got this from a friend and have not added insurance back yet :( bad day turns to worse i guess :(

well did just wires on the battery for charge around 5 minutes and got 70 %. after some more reading, this is only what i have should done and fear for some reason that my phones internal charging capabilities are now compromised but hopefully not. just placed an order for just an oem battery and an external charger for just in case i need this method until i know i can warranty this phone back just in case it is in the phone.

SO NOTE TO EVERYONE! DO NOT DO THE USB BUTCHER TO PHONES TERMINALS!!!!

just put on the battery terminals from the motorola charger, as i have also read that the usb volts are different from wall charger and can mess it up??? or be patient unlike me and wait for a friend to charge battery or take to verizon!
