i have a rooted s-on rezound. I found some nice splash screens and was wondering is there any way to flash theme besides being s-off.
glad you got your superuser issue worked out. your kernel issues is likely caused by flashing a rom, then restoring a backup from your permanent installed recovery.
you have a couple options to fix:
1)fastboot boot your recovery and then restore your backup after a full wipe(data, cache, dalvik, boot, system)
2)fastboot boot your recovery then install a new rom, aftre a full wipe. there are stock rooted roms, and stable custom roms, that choice is yours
in either case, launching your recovery is the key factor, you cannot fix the issue with a permenent recovery unless you manually pull the boot image from the rom and flash it. life is much easier if you just fastboot boot the recovery,so if you dont understand that, thats the first thing to work in
as for cons of htcdev, you read the link i provided above, right?
http://androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/587430-s-want-flash-roms-read.html will tell you about fastboot booting your recovery into phone memory and some differences in s-on vs s-off flashing. i personally find htcdev unlock to be a PITA,but we all have different uses and expectations for our devices![]()
Okay great. I am going to perform another backup of my system then I will do a full wipe and re-install the backup. I hope that fixes my WiFi Issues. Meanwhile, would you mind telling me which stable custom roms are out there or which roms in general that you reccomend? Id love to try a few out! Thanks again for your great advice!

just to make sure we are on the same page, you must install a backup where wifi was working. backing up what you have will just restore the same kernel/module mismatch.
as for roms, there are alot of good ones, you might check out the "best ICS rom for rezound" thread for some info. wether you like sense or not,or what version of sense are just a couple of factors to chosing a rom![]()
Ohh that makes more sense... Well technically my WiFi has never worked with ICS installed... Is there anyway to just startover? Or am I better off installing a different rom all together? How difficult would it be to go back to Gingerbread?
if you dont have a working wifi bckup, then prolly your best bet is to flash something on. what firmware are you on?
check hboot screen:
hboot 2.11 or less = gingerbread firmware
hboot 2.21 or greater = ICS firmware
if you are on GB,you can relock and run a GB ruu,or flash a GB rom. if youre on ICS firmware, your SOL for the ruu,as you cannot go backwards in build numbers when s-on.
you can still run ICS or GB roms,no matter wich firmware youre on.
if you flash an ICS rom on GB firmware, you need the old firmware patch. obviously, you can flash GB roms without issue.
if youre on ICS firmware, the reverse is true- you can flash ICS roms without issue, or you can run a GB rom by flashing the new firmware patch
heres a couple roms you may look at,both based on the newest update:
[ROM][09.06.12][6.1] Nils' Business ICS 4.0.3 Sense 3.6 (ICS Global)[Aroma Installer] - xda-developers
(lightly themed)
[ROM][08.20.12] INJECTION 2.0 [ICS Sense Global 3.6 - 4.03.605.2] - xda-developers
)
I would like to perform a backup for my phone so I do not lose anything before I go about losing it all. I appologize if this part was already covered in some other area but I don't remember seeing it anywhere.

there is no(known to me) way of making a backup without being rooted,or i promise i would have included it in the instructions. most folks that do this would prefer not to lose any data.
also, unfortunately,i also do not know of any other root exploits that currently work on the rezound. if you want to add root access, youll need to htcdev unlock, and thus lose your current data and setup.
to minimize the inconvenience, you can make sure your calander and contacts at a minimum are backed up with gmail, that way they will redownload as soon as you sign in to your gmail account after the reset.
i believe there are some apps that will work without root to back up sms and call logs,if you cant live without those.
but beyond that, youll need to back up everything on the internal storage, and after root youll need to redownload your apps, reset your various settings, wall paper and ringtones, and re-sign in to your various accounts.
games that store data locally, will lose that data also.
sorry thats prolly not the answer you were hoping for.![]()
I've unlocked the bootloader. But I am having trouble installing any type of recovery. The issue that is in front of me now is that I can not get hte computer to recognize the device when in the boot menu. Do you know what I'm doing wrong?
it could be any number of things. make sure the phone is in fastboot, not hboot.
try unplug/replug the phone. try different usb cables and ports, might reboot the pc as well if it persists.
i assume this is the same pc you unlocked with,so drivers should be there and working?
a copy of your cmd window may help
does it have anything to do with Charge/USB-mode. Unlock went fine with this pc. the cmd is attached
no,not when in fastboot. if the phone is in bootloader for your code, then you are using the wrong command.
2 ways of comunicating with the phone:
1)adb= booted phone
2)fastboot= bootloader
so if youre using fastboot to install a recovery you need to use:
fastboot devices
to make sure youre connected.
if youre in the booted OS trying to get a response from adb devices you will need usb debug checked, and the phone in charge only mode.
last and not least, note that if you power on into bootloader via power/vol down from powered off you will be in hboot. youll need to select fastboot with the vol rocker and power button to comunicate with the phone
3)flash superuser root files*
there is not much to explain with this one. if booted to recovery from above, use the recovery menu on your phone to:
-make a backup of your stock, unrooted rom. completely optional, but a very good idea,IMO.
-wipe cache
-wipe dalvik cache
-install zip from sd card(chose your superuser file)
-reboot
*congratulations,youre rooted
*note that you do not neccessarily need to flash superuser. if you want to flash a custom rom,you can go ahead and do that now,no need to root your stock rom first. some info on flashing roms here: http://androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/499172-how-manually-flash-roms.html
*hope it helps some folks![]()
ok so I made it perfectly fine through steps 1) Unlock with htcdev and 2) Flash a recovery and then felt like it all dropped of and no longer knew what to do. I do not do 2) permanently install your recovery do I? and I do not know what step 3) means. all I saw on my phone once step 2 was over was the white screen with the 4 options of reboot and all that stuff. so now it appears that all I have is just a stock phone with ics. what did I not understand of part 3 is what I'm trying to ask lol?

fastboot does work thanks.
if you executed either option 1,or option 2 of step "2)flash a recovery",then youre left looking at amon ra recovery's menu on your phones screen. it is somewhat beyond the scope of this guide to give an overview of all the recovery menu options.
you can use your finger to scroll up and down on the screen to highlight a menu option,or use the vol rocker. use the "search" softkey to select, the "back" softkey to go back a menu
in a nutshell, make a backup using the "backup and restore" menu, then wipe cache and dalvik cache with the "wipe" menu. finally, use the "flash zip" menu to flash the superuser zip file fromthe sd card. this will install the superuser app and binary, and give you root access. once you reboot, look in your app drawer for the superSU app
hope that clears it up.![]()
your welcome. so have you got yourself sorted?
