Help Screen is off when receiving Messages

I don't see an option to turn on the screen when receiving Messages - a really important feature for me. Any thoughts?

I'm sorry, no, this is for the Evo. I just want the screen to turn on when I get a text - every phone before 2008 did that.

You can try using Go SMS(Android Market) and adjust the notification settings to have it turn on the screen when messages are received.

I know it's for the evo, I'm just saying some people like how the iPhone turns the screen on and uses a popup when you receives texts. Just thought that's what you were going for.

The stock messaging app doesn't do it. Have you tried a third party app like handcent or chomp sms? Those are definitely more customizable.

Stock doesn't want to do this because it's a battery drain. I could have sworn the screen turned on for messages at original release but was subsequently changed to not turn on after one of the first updates. Maybe it's just my imagination.

^pretty sure it did but they took it off when people started whining about battery life. handcent has it set to pop up and screen on by default... was a huge battery drain so I turned it off. teto
