Help Screen not turning off

Hello, for some reason on my Wife's V the screen will not turn off or go to sleep. In the setting the screen should turn off after 30 secs but it is not happening, any ideas? This a brand new just out of the box phone that has not be activated

Return the phone and get another one. It shouldn't be doing that, unless you have it plugged in to charge and the setting to keep the screen turned on is enabled. (Applications, Development, Stay Awake.)

Hmm Well I have another one boxed up but I hope it does not come to that. Any other options?

None that I can think of.

The Optimus has a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase (unless you are not the original person who purchased it, or unless you root the phone), plus if you have the receipt from the store you just bought it at you can take it back and replace it with a new one.

mbaha, have you tried a reboot. Mine has done this a couple of times. I shut the phone down, waited a few seconds, then turned it back on. The problem "magically" went away. I don't know if this will work for you, but it's worth a try if you haven't already done so.

Something else you might try is pulling the battery and then holding the power button for 30sec. Then reinstall battery and power up.

I agree with the ideas mentioned above as a possible fix. Also since it's brand new and you probably dont have apps and contacts in the phone yet, you can try to reset you phone back to factory default mode in the settings.

Most assuredly this ^ is a good "if nothing else works" idea. Might even be a good " first thing to try" idea.

Glade something worked for you.
That's one of the things I like about this forum: A few heads are better than one.
I've see a problem and it's cure. Somebody else see's what looks liks the same problem, but a different cure.
Here you get all the cure's so you can fix the problem easily.

Id still be a bit leery though. Since the phone isn't supposed to be doing what it did to begin with, removing the battery for a moment might merely be a temporary band-aid that could mask a more serious issue. Keep an eye on the phone and don't lose your receipt. If the problem persists, definitely return it for a replacement.

My Nexus S done it once - I found out that FAST REBOOT app solved it out ...
