Help Screen replacement

Lurker
Hey guys. Cracked my screen on my gsm galaxy nexus. It's not bad, but I really want to replace the screen. Anybody have any experience with getting their screen replaced or doing it themselves? I would really appreciate any help or info or past experience. Thanks guys! :-)

I haven't done it myself, but iFixit has a guide and they sell the tools and parts too I believe. I think the GNex scored a 7 or 8 out of ten (with ten being the easiest) for repairability. Another place to look is RepairsUniverse as they produce repair guides for many popular phones.

Here's some info I posted in a similar thread....

Here's the thread with the samsung contact info:

Unbelievably crappy luck = cracked glass

From other threads here, sounds like it takes about a week to 10 days for Samsung to repair and return.

Reading the teardown over at iFixit leads me to recommend that U Don't Fixit. Specifically the warning on step 15:
"The glass is fused to both the display and the display frame. So don't crack the glass unless you're good with a heat gun, or you're fond of replacing the glass, display, and frame together ($$$)."

I dropped my GN not once but twice and the 2nd one did the screen in. I eventually contacted samsung and shipped my phone to texas for repair. They fixed it in 3 days but 10 business days to ship back/forth. So expect to be without your phone for about 3 elapsed weeks. Cost was about $164 (shipping is included).

- They will give you a tracking # to stay posted on the progress.
- Be aware that they will do a factory reset (unlink google wallet)
- I found google backup/restore to be a godsend. Did a backup before I purged my phone and then sent it out (it will eat up your data plan though)
- Don't send them the battery or the back cover. They're not responsible for it.
