Help Screen to light up when you get a text?

I am pretty sure when I got my first few texts with handcent the screen lit up, but now it stays black when receiving a text. Is that how it is supposed to be?

I know with the default messaging app, the screen does not light up. Once I install ChompSMS I'll let you know if it lights up. I rather like the default app though, so I might not switch.

For Handcent:

Go to Settings, Notification Settings, Pop-up settings: check "Screen on for popup".

Works consistently for me.

On my Fascinate, there is no "Notification Settings" option at all, NADA.
Does not exist.... wish it was there, I would also like for it to light up with a text message w/o having to add on another app.

I havent added anything special to my phone and when I get a text it will sometimes light up. not sure why or how but I wish it would do it all the time!

Then you're not using Handcent.
P.S. Handcent is much nicer than the stock app and free.
