If you got an international Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) that is upgraded to Froyo, you can do a screenshot capture on a phone without any root or app.
Press the <= button, and then center home button, quickly and keep them pressed simultaneously. You will hear a loud click and a message will pop up, screen image saved to a file. It takes a little bit of practice to get the timing right though.
Oops sorry, you got a Droid. I'll just leave this message for Galaxy S users then.
Alternatively, if you aren't rooted, you can download the Android SDK and set that up on your PC. Then, you can run the DDMS utility to capture screen images from your phone.
