Scrolling issues in web browser?

Recently picked up the SGII. Great phone btw. I'm new to Android so alot of things are still foreign to me.

One thing I noticed about the web browser during scrolling. When I vertical scroll, the screen doesn't "lock" so that means that if I'm not very careful, the screen will scroll sideways when scrolling vertically. So the phone ends up scrolling diagonally on the web browser.

I've used iphones before I came to the SGII. With iPhones, the screen would "lock" meaning that if you scrolled up or down in a web browser, the phone wouldn't scroll sideways. Also, if you scrolled sideways, the phone wouldn't scroll up and down.

Is this how Android's web browser is by default? Is there a way to change this?

I am using Dolphin but it might be the same. In dolphin there is a desktop and phone mode. Desktop is just like your standard PC browser whereas phone mode is optimize for the phone. When optimize, you mostly view it by scrolling down.

Last I heard, the updated stock browser now have this option as well. I don't recall if it did last time. Anyway, try looking in the settings for the browser if you can set it to phone mode or something like that.

The other way, just double tap on the screen and it will zoom in. Easier to scroll that way as well.

Interestingly it was default behaviour on my phone prior to firmware upgrade. Every scroll would lock nicely regardless the browser. After upgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.3.6 it's gone from all my apps. And no settings change had any effect on it.

I also just got a galaxy s2 this week. Its my fifth android phone, and the first one to have this issue. As soon as I noticed it, though I remembered an article I had read a few months back. One of the patents for which apple has filed lawsuits, is a patent on the algorithm that determines whether the user intended to scroll vertically or horizontally and "locks" the direction of movement. Do a google search for "apple inertial scrolling patent".

I'm not sure if it's changed in all versions of 2.3.6 or just Samsung's version. I know the patent was specifically mentioned in their suit against Samsung, however, the latest news I could find that specifically mentioned the scrolling patent was that a judge in the US declined to issue a preliminary injunction against samsung in early december. I dont know if a final ruling has been made or not. I'm hoping someone figures out a workaround. It's driving me nuts.
