Help SD Card Full - swap for bigger card

Hi.

I've run out of spcae on the SD card that came with my Desire. I want to buy a bigger card (any recommendations please?) and swap all my existing data to the new card. I guess I can just copy everything to my PC and copy back to the new card?
But what I can't find an answer to is what about the Apps installed on the card - I guess I have to get the new card in and reinstall do I? What about any settings or checkpoints? Do they get wiped? I've trawled the forums but haven't found anything unfortunately to answer my questions.

Many thanks in advance.

if you have a windows PC, just ensure hidden folders are visible and copy it to pc, then to the new card.

My answer includes that. Theyre in a folder called Android_Secure or (or something) on the sd card. Once copied, all fine.

class 10 would be awesoome, i have 2gb class 2 :(
does it effects HD video recording?
i am thinking of buying 8gb class6...
suggestions please...

FYI, IF anyone cares, i contacted HTC and they stated the fastest class cards that all HTC devices can take is class six, so, well, just my input lol

Thats very interesting. Might explain why my write speed is never over 6MB/s

Is it a hardware limitation?

That is correct. There are very few devices that can even handle above class 6 right now. Mostly any HD video camera that runs in the 1080p range and some high end DSLR's. I have a nikon D7000 and it can handle class 10.

Hmm. I have to test what class has my microSD. Any suggestions for an application to test its speed?

What can my D5000 handle?

As far as testing you have to contact the manufacturer unless stated in the manual (rare) If you are asking what class is the one IN the phone, then just pull it out and you will have a number with a c around it, kinda like a copyright logo with the c inside, but the c is outside and a number inside.

The d5000 I really dont know, I would contact Nikon, their website is useless for those types of numbers.

Thanks. The standard 4GB microSD in my Desire says its a Samsung Class 2 card. Good thing is that I'm not using it...

There must be an Android app to test the actual read/write speed, but I don't see anything in Market. It remains to test with a PC application in a fast card-reader.

Yes there is. "Sd card speed test"
You mean "SD Card Tester"? That app costs $2 and has negative reviews.

Actually, I've found 2 tools for Android that can benchmark the SD card: SD Tools and System Benchmark (both freeware). I'll check them out. :)

SD card speed test used to be free but now its paid. Works fine for me though.

You could have bought it and got a refund ;)

I've tried both apps - they both work well and confirmed what I thought. My card is 8GB Class 6 card. Funny, the System Benchmark is just like Quadrant, but includes SD card speed test. :)
