Help SD Card Mounting Issues

Earlier today my phone informed me that my SD card had unexpectedly been removed and to please insert an SD card. Funny since the card is buried under the battery and cannot possibly be removed without first removing the battery. I turned off the phone and took off the battery, took out the card and put it back in. When the phone came back on it said that the card had been removed without being unmounted first, unmounting it of course was not an option since the phone thought there was no card at all. Then when I tried to mount the card, I was informed that the card was damaged and may need to be erased. I have a universal card reader for my PC and checked the SD card it is apparently no longer formatted, how I have no idea!! Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue without wiping the card and losing all of the data?

Man, your card may have bit the dust. I've never tried to restore anything from a damaged card before. I've heard there are programs you can download from the googles that does this, but I really have no experience with them.

Let me check and see if I can find something.

EDIT: I found a few that might help, I googled "recover data from an sd card" and got piles of hits like this one:

Hopefully one of these methods will work. Then once you recover your data, just reformat the card and see if it works. If not you'll need to get a new one.

Use PhotoRec www.cgisecurities.com I think is the addy if not search Google for it. Do note this is a powerful program so ensure you are recovering from the correct disk.
