SD card shows up as CD Drive - Fixed!! :-)

Problem:
When you plug in your Android, the computer recognizes the two drives (internal memory & SD card) however, the SD card is not a "removable disk" that you can access...it is a CD drive.

Solution:
On my computer (Windows XP), I right clicked on the CD drive (your SD card) and selected properties. then select hardware. you will see a list that should have a couple HTC Android Phone USB Device options. I had two that said Disk Drives and one that said DVD/CD ROM Drives. I selected the HTC Android Phone USB Device that was a DVD/CD ROM drive and clicked properties. at the bottom you will see a drop down box for Device Usage: select "Do not use this device (disable). then click OK all the way back out and you should now have access to your SD card.

I hope this helps somone! It drove me crazy for two days!!!! :D

Mine has always shown up as 2 drives...internal and SD card. I've always been able to access both with no problem. Interesting though and good that you found a workaround for your situation. May be others out there that are having the same issue but unless something has changed with the newer Incredibles, this is not the norm.

THANKS!!!!! I have been trying to get my new Thunderbolt to connect to my Laptop for 3 days!! I was running windows Vista 64 and both my desktops have windows 7 64. So I purchased the upgrade for my laptop and that didn't fix it. Finally this fixed it. For some reason my 2 desktop computers don't mind having both the disk drive and CD drive, but my laptop just locked up and autoplay would not come up when the phone is in mount disk mode. Now it works perfectly!

I have seen some people with the thunderbolt having this problem both on the htc forum and droid forum. I wonder why this happens on some computers and not others???
Thanks Again

Tim

Under Notifications on the phone you can change the Connect to PC option to Disk Drive and both drives will show up. That fixed mine

Oops. Did your trick, now the sd card doesnt show up at all when I hook up the USB. Pretty sure I disabled the DVD/CD selection (Vista 64) and did not touch the USB version under properties. The phone still shows up, and I do select mount as a disk drive. Heck of it is this wasnt a problem until the TB update. Any idea's?

Thank you for the welcome. While I will post to the TB forum, this is a Android issue in general from what I have read, and it was this particular thread I followed for instructions on changing the SD card from being viewed as a DVD/CD drive. So I guess the question still remains, now that I have "disabled" the SD card DVD/CD property, my Vista doesnt see the SD card at all. How would I get it "enabled"?:o

I was able to connect via Setup. Select Connect to PC, then select disk drive. All pictures and videos can now be transfered to the PC via drag and drop.

Solution for problem with connection between HTC and Windows Vista

Please follow the instructions

1. Plug your mobile to your PC. When I am connecting the mobile to the PC the "Location" app is opened automatically (I close it).
1.a ENABLE Wi-Fi (JUST DISCOVERED)
2. Go to settings and select "wireless and network" and do the following
2.1. Click on "USB tethering setting" and select you system (windows or Mac OS X)
2.2. Click on "USB tethering" to be turn on and a USB symbol will appear in the main screen. When I click my "Location" app is opened automatically (I close it).
3. Go to the main screen and on top of the screen and drop down the USB symbol or in the same main screen you can click on "menu" and select "Notifications"
4. Click on "USB tethering" and you will have the possibility to select how you want to synchronize you mobile with the PC, for instance, charge only, disk drive, HTC sync, USB tethering, Internet pass-through.

Perhaps step 2.1 can be skip ...I didnt try, but you can try.
The problem with "Location" apps it is maybe just happeing with my mobile... perhaps it is not happening with you.

PC system: Windows vista home Edition 32
HTC:
Andriod version: 2.3.5
htc sense version: 3.0
software number: 3.12405.1

The steps described previously, were performed with antivirus disabled. When antivirus was enabled several times the problem with "Location" apps were found, but eventually sync was done.

I JUST DISCOVERED THIS DETAIL TONIGHT.
Wi-Fi should be enable in order to activate USB tethering..!!
