Help SD Card Unexpectedly removed

Hey there guys and gals,

Made the switch to Samsung about 4 months ago, getting myself a Galaxy S3 4g. Dropped something on it a couple of weeks ago, and replaced it with the Galaxy S4.

Loving it, but I am encountering a problem that I was hoping to get some help with.

When I am listening to music, or accessing my gallery, I keep getting this message in the notification area at the top of the screen that says 'SD card unexpectedly removed'. It will remount, and then do it over and over again. With music, I'll be listening to a song, and then the preloaded Samsung thing starts playing as a result of the same issue.

What's wrong? Have I not installed it correctly? I had no issue like this with the S3.

Any tips would be fab.

Have you tried removing it and installing it again. There is a possibility that it is not solidly physically mounted. I hope that's the fix for you. If the problem is beyond that, you might try a different SD card. If neither of the above helps.. it's likely a hardware problem. Best of luck to you and welcome to AF. I had the same thing happen this evening while using winamp. I was scrolling through songs, there was a hiccup, it said the card was unexpectedly removed, and I was left looking at some Samsung preloaded junk.

I checked my card, etc., and all was fine. I've accessed the card several times over the last couple days since getting my phone and this was the first time I had any issue with it.

After checking the car and returning to winamp it did not happen again - it was just that one time.

I have a Verizon S4 and am using a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 card.
 
I've seen numerous people have this same problem and they have all had 64 GB cards and I think a lot were the sandisk cards. I have the same sandisk card except its 32 GB and haven't noticed a problem with it.
 
Is your SD card SanDisk?

They have admitted to producing faulty batches of 32GB and 64GB SD cards that produce exactly these symptoms.

If it is, get in touch with SanDisk and they will replace the card.
 
i had same issue with Kingston 32 GB card it was class 4, My Galaxy S3 use to bug me a lot it always said the card unmounted and remounting the card...result battery drain...i bought Galaxy S4 and same problem keep on happening. i changed the card to Kingston 32 GB Class 10..no problem so far. i think you card is either class 4 or it is fried up by either of Galaxy phones. Change your card to Class 6 or higher.

Got my galaxy s4 3 weeks ago and on the 2nd week, it started prompting the "s card unexpectedly removed". Fixed it by just restarting the phone, but now, even restarting won't fix it.
I'm using a Transcend 32gb class 4 card.
 
I also had a 32 GB SanDisk card, worked flawlessly in old phone... 4 weeks in this phone, it's now completely dead and not recognised. My phone appears to have even given up telling me it's unmounted unexpectedly.

Tried a Samsung 64 GB class 10, instantly crashed my phone repeatedly and corrupted beyond repair through phone or PC.

Got a refund and same another of the Samsung ones but it's going no way near this phone. I'm returning it and hoping I'll be one of the lucky ones that doesn't have a dud phone. This is far too common and very worrying. I don't think it's SanDisk fault, it's Samsung!

I would consider looking at other phones but all I all I love this phone and nothing else really compares for me.
 
Why assume it is the different cards? It could be the device connector runs to the card, a glitch with asynchronous control of the gates, a firmware issue, a fit issue and several other things.

Based on the varied cards, it seems like the device may be the issue. If this happens with apps 2 sd, you will have to restart your device for the apps to be seen again that are on the SD.
 
Hello friends
I am using 32 gb sandisk in galaxy s2 since last 6 months. Now as I have been using almost 27 gb of this card , I am getting the message " sd card unexpectedly removed" almost every 5 minutes..
Already tried formatting this but no resolution. .
Any one may please help..
 
probably an obvious tip here but is the card fully inserted? I installed a new sony 32G card yesterday and it would not "click" into place. I had to try 3-4 times before it finally stayed in place. Seems like the locking mechanism is a little off.
So far I have had no issues.
 
somestime u dont need to use the newest micro-sdcard . Ive bought that things in the hundred packet and just say 8gb "made in Taiwan" and faked prevented temp in outside. It worked perfectly beside the stock ones with "ur sd card unexpectedly removed" error in cm10 roms. Hope u choose ur best. If not, always turn on ur wifi and forget the wifi password for save battery and retype it next time.
 
Started on my Galaxy S2, which had just ejected my Kingston 32GB SD Card one day, the card survived until I moved on the Galaxy S3.the same error ..
The SD Card then was definitely destroyed.I inserted and a new SanDisk 32GB and after a week, the same error .. now after days on the Galaxy S4 the same problem.

I think this problem can have several causes. Maybe the SD card is driven by a high voltage on the SD Card slot or the SD Card is simply not robust enough for the hardware. Maybe both playing together and the operating system has problems.

I've programmed a small app "SD Fix Tool" to prevent this annoying error. Also the mediascanner can enabled and disabled to save battery.

To prevent the SD card error, there are two services that can be activated and deactivated. However, these functions are only experimental and not prevent all errors!!

On my Galaxy S3, the SD card was ejected 700 times in 2 days.
After activation, there was about 80 times.
But the function does not prevent all errors!

Also, the message comes after the activation screen not as often.

This app need ROOT access for activation and deactivation
the media scanner!

The media scanner scans the internal and external SD card.
The path to the external SD card is "/ mnt / extSdCard /".
You can set other paths in settings.
