One of the features I'm missing from my BB is searching emails. I had one search button on the BB and it would bring up messages, emails, contacts and any other saved documents on the phone.

With ICS I can limit the search to messaging and contacts in the settings, but it won't give me an email search option.

Does anyone know a way to include emails?

Also, once i've entered the data in the search field it still takes me to the browser (although it will bring up a list of contacts/messages that have the text I'm searching under on a dropdown below the search bar, which is almost as good). Does anyone know a way to disable it searching the net?

You can search mails within the gmail app itself. Other than that, no. Not that I know of.

How do you search from within Gmail itself? All I see when I'm in a mailbox under the menu option is "sync now" and "settings".

It's the magnifying icon on the bottom of the main screen.

Let's get very specific if we can.

I go to the home screen, where my email icon is - no magnifying glass. I open Email and it takes me to one of my email accounts' inbox. No magnifying glass. I change email accounts and still no magnifying glass.

Where else would it appear?

When I open the "gmail" program to my inbox its at the bottom, second icon next to the compose new mail icon...

its also there on my yahoo account e-mail inbox.

I found it on my gmail account. It doesn't appear on my workspecific account nor on hotmail or sbcglobal. So it does me no real good.

Wait, don't give up. It's there on my corporate email and I just use the standard email app that came with the phone. The Gmail icon is a red image in an envelope - the corporate icon is yellow. Do you have that? On mine, which is tied to an Exchange account, when I open the app, the second icon in is the search (magnifier) icon. You don't have that???
