Help Second Droid X dying?!!!

nitsua97

Lurker
Hey,

So I got my first new Droid X in February of this year and in June I had to get a warranty replacement. I plugged it in one night and it failed to charge and the buttons stopped working on it as well. They shipped my a "new" refurbished phone and it worked great up until this week.

Now the audio jack on my second phone is not working so well. I can't get my droid x to play on the cassette adapter in my car. One of pair of headphones won't work and another pair works as long as I lay the phone down flat and don't breathe on it let alone move it.

These both appear to be kinda of common problems with the Droid X and the fact that I have had to replace two Droid Xs in less than half year leaves me to decide that the Droid X might not be the best built phone. So my question is this can I swap out my Droid X for another android on my current plan? I have the unlimited data plan and would very much like to keep it! If so what non-Motorola phone would y'all recommend?

nitsua97,

I don't have any magic advice for you other than what you've already done for your first phone (i.e., ask for another replacement).

I'm guessing what happens (and not just for Motorola, but for all carriers / manufacturers) is that when people return they phones for issues, they are checked-out and the obvious things are fixed before being put on the shelf as phones that can be sent-out to folks as warranty replacements.

You can imagine that not all issues would necessarily be addressed for a particular device, unless the person that original returned it detailed all of the issues, even the intermittent ones (and even then, if the techs that fix them aren't able to reproduce the issue, would they bother trying to fix them? dunno...).

All that being said, I've read many posts and opinions from people that say that Motorola devices are some of the best and more well-made devices out there. I'm a long-time HTC Droid Eris owner and I've seen cases where folks have been through many different refurbs before finally being offered a different device (I'm sure the device, inventory of refurbs, carrier policies, and which customer service rep you get all make a difference in how you are treated and which device you get).

Each person uses and tasks their devices differently from each other, so everyone's mileage will vary regarding how many "miles" are put on each phone. I've had my original Eris since the second week of November '09 and my original Droid X since July 15th '10 (launch day), but I've been very careful in the care and handling of each (always in a case, never in my pocket, etc.).

Anyway, talk (very nicely--I've heard that helps a lot ;) :)) to VZW's customer service and see what their stance it. Like I've heard, a lot of it depends on getting a sympathetic customer service rep.

Good luck and cheers!
