Security Policy Update issues

Hi all.

Still getting to know my S4!
My query is this:-
I use Whatsapp messenger, and today it updated via Play store.
A few minutes later I got a "warning" msg that it has been closed due to possible security issue that may be resolved by updating the Samsung Security Policy.
however when I try to update, i am informed that it has failed due to network issues.

Is anyone else having/had this issue? How do I resolve it?
Or will I be able to update the policy eventually?

I just wanted to say that's completely new to me. Have you tried contacting WhatsApp directly? A lot of apps are social now and you'll get quicker responses than email.

I have the same problem. My Galaxy s4 started showing me the same "security policy update" notification yesterday as well as another "prevention information" notification telling me "WhatsApp has been forced to stop for an unauthrorized attempt to access system in your device".

Whatsapp seems to be the only app that causes this. It doesn't actually close but it's really annoying.

Does anyone know what's causing this and how it can be solved?

I started having this issue as well, two days ago on a T-mobile Galaxy S4. It seems to be affecting S4s on all networks, and only since the firmware update.

There was an update for WhatsApp last night that gave me functionality back, but still getting that message!

I found it pretty suspect at first. There are missing spaces between words in the Security Policy Update description, but it seems it's a legitimate Samsung thing?

With the S4 being a business minded phone when it comes to security, I wonder if WhatsApp inadvertently triggered something present in the S4 that isn't on other devices. Has anyone gotten a response from the company about it?

Possibly. No response from Whatsapp, but it seems likely that it's something in the app causing an issue with the S4 security settings.

I sent a query to Whatsapp. still waiting a reply. I did go to their website & update to latest version. Yes! newer version than the Play store update.
But still received the Security warning msg.
Whatsapp still working Ok.
So, at present I have ticked the Remind me in 30 days option on the security update.
Not sure why the update to security policy keeps failing.
Perhaps I should contact Samsung directlly?.......

Emailed Whatsapp three days ago, sent to both support and Android support. Also forwarded the email to Samsung support.

No response from anyone.

I got this response from WhatsApp today:

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience. This is a known issue and we are doing our best to improve WhatsApp in a future update.

In the meantime, please downgrade to the previous version:

Go to http://www.whatsapp.com/android/2.11.23/WhatsApp.apk on your phone
Open the file that is downloaded
You may need to disable Unknown sources in your system security settings to install this version.

We apologize for the inconvenience.
So it seems something in the WhatsApp update was at fault. No issues as of yet using the 2.11.23 version.

ive had the same issue as everyone else except with facebook not whatsapp. i took my phone back to the shop it came from they replace the handset and still the same issue.

A whatsapp update is on Google play today, presumably to correct the knox issue. Seems ok on mine so far for a couple of hours now, fingers crossed it's sorted.

WhatsApp support emailed again saying that they believe they've fixed the issue and to download the latest version from here:

http://www.whatsapp.com/android/current/WhatsApp.apk

Glad you got a response from Whatsapp.....I didnt!!!!!
Their initial automated email says to update to latest version via their site.
This I did (2.11.73) & I havent had any issues yet (although I think I may have hit the remind me in 30 days box in the security warning!!!)

I now notice there is a new up date (2.11.79) So I will try that & keep my fingers crossed!

Just had the update notification.
I will download later & see what happens, although I might have to wait as I think I hit the remind in 30 days button in error.
Only time will tell!

Still no joy Im afraid.
Have uninstalled & re-installed various updates from Whatsapp & had a couple of responses from Whatsapp devs, but I am still getting the Security Policy Update pop-up.
I removed Whatsapp from my phone last night & I am still getting the pop-ups!
Apparently, you can stop the pop-ups by force stopping the app??
I have done this, so only time will tell!!

I have this problem and note the references to WhatsApp. I do not have WhatsApp, so why should I be getting this problem?

According to my call with Samsung earlier, this issue has NOTHING to do with Whatsapp or any other app. Only Samsung are to blame!
