Root Sending Droid X in for warranty (was rooted)

My Droid X had a bright spot on the screen that showed up on lighter colors. Took it to Verizon and they said they would swap it out for a replacement. I have my replacement and now I need to send the bad one back.

My question I have for any of you is this: I previously had this phone running Tranquility 3.6 and I just ran the 2.3.340 SBF on this phone and wiped all data/cache. Will that be all I need to do to send the phone back? The bootloader on that phone was still 30.03 (I think thats right, I know it had the two 3's).

Thanks in advance.

I don't really think they're going to be checking things like the bootloader, baseband version and kernel version, so you should be good to go. Enjoy the new DX. :D

As long as the superuser icon is gone....I wouldnt worry about it,they are going to reflash it anyway...after they "recondition" it..:)

Sounds good to me. I'm sure you guys know more than I do anyways.

But I have often wondered what I would do in a similiar situation. If your phone was damaged or malfunctioning, why not just tell VZ you lost it?..and turn it off of course.(GPS)

It seems simple to me. I must be missing something because it just coulndn't be that easy...*LOL*

if you figure the cost of insurance, most likely a higher deductible, and figure whatever cap the insurance for smart phones is....i wonder if you wouldnt come out behind anyway.

fiscally speaking you may be better off being honest and hoping they just replace it under warranty....you would have to check in to it.

as far as giving verizon the big screw, i wouldnt feel to bad, they just got nailed for giving customers the screw....again from what i hear. top that it wasnt long ago those phone ins. companies got themselves in the sling....

"Lying to Verizon"... here's my thoughts:

I'm on DX #4... replaced 3 times.. old ones were rooted then sbf'ed back to .15 before returning. The OP has stated that this was a SCREEN problem.. not like a fried processor from overclocking( the only possible damage I can think of from rooting--though highly unlikely to happen anyhow). Therefore this IS a warranty issue. Fooey on the root voids warranty crap as the device would have done that rooted or not.

Here are my cases.. first one, touchscreen went haywire..even after sbf'ing still haywire. Second, processor in turtle mode out of box. Patiently rooted and UNDERclocked to 800mHz to get it to stabilize. Third after two days acted like I was constantly repeatedly tapping the lower corner of the screen. ALL hardware problems with the devices.. rooted or not.

Long start short.. a defective device is as such and should be replaced. We pay out the butt for these things and have the right to at least have a device that does what it was made to do properly at least.
