Root sense, aosp

not one of those "typical" whats the difference threads...I pretty much know the difference. Just wondering what the exact process to flashing an aosp rom is (i think i have an itch to try it out)..is it..ROM, Kernel, launcher, gapps, gps fix, etc?? or are aosp roms starting to bake everything in?

Most aosp Roms will not have the gapps installed so....

Make sure you do a complete wipe before flashing, I would also recommend using a wiping script such as VRSuperwipe or Calkulin's wipe all.

So wipe
1. data/factory reset
2. Cache
3. Dalvik cache
4. Use VRSuperwipe and/or Calkulin's wipe

When flashing an aosp rom, in order:

1. Flash rom (necessary)
2. Flash Gapps (necessary)
3. Flash custom kernel (not necessary)
4. Flash Gps fix (recommended)
5. Flash a2sd (if sdcard is partitioned)
6. Reboot

Most aosp Roms will have a launcher installed already but download a different launcher from the market if you want to try something different.

If a theme is available for your specific rom, then you will need to follow the developers directions but most themes will be flashed in recovery.

sweet thanks!! I am on mikg3.11, and LOVE IT..but I may be bored with sense?!@? lol..may have to scratch that itch as OCN would say. Also, since I DL Titanium backup i feel invincible! LOL (where have I been not having that app for so long!)

Just make sure you nandroid in case you dont like AOSP.

I'd suggest MIUI or decks cm7 variant

Nandroid? People still Nandroid? All seriousness, it's the unspoken safety net in my opinion, if we still have to tell others to Nandroid then rooting your phone is probably not for you ;)

When you wipe data/factory reset, if your sdcard is partitioned then the sd extension will be wiped also, there's really no need to wipe it again unless of course you're using clockworkmod:p
Did not know that Thanks for the info

For me, using RA-supersonic-v2.3, my full wipe is: Factory Data/Reset, Boot, System. That accounts for all of the partitions, and I only ever do it once, because RA wipes well on the first try ;). I haven't had any problems doing it this way, and I have flashed a LOT of stuff.
