Help Sense crashing/restarting - don't reset without checking Google Wallet!!!

Ok ... I probably have missed.it, because when you post, you post A LOT. :)

I honestly don't know exactly what the problem is. While there appesrs to be a problem with Wallet and a factory reset, most of the early comments in this thread appeared to be posted in haste and don't exactly make a complete thought. No disrespect meant to anyone. Just hard to read through 10 posts and link to elsewhere to do the same to learn of the problem.

Anyway, why won't Sprint exchange it?

I would drive to a different store. Don't tell them what happened. Just say "the shit is broke, see? "

They are willing to replace it, but don't have any in stock :)

Gotcha. And I think I got it with how to avoid problem. Well that's good they are willing to replace it. Assume he got his name on a list.

The factory reset routine should be made to clear Wallet properly.

I am thinking they only fulfilled pre orders. I can't imagine there isn't a pile of these sitting somewhere. Seems strange no one has in stock, very few were sold at each BB and RS based on comments here. And all these retailers and Sprint keep talking about a launch date hasn't been set. Yesterdsy, mine was the first my Sprint Store had seen.

Ok, good luck!

Well I just received a reply email from HTC 4 days later but none the less I recieved a reply which so far his fixed the HTC crash issue but still nothing on the google Wallet issue from either sprint nor HTC. But so far so good sense has quit crashing. Here is the email below from HTC and so far so good finally :-)

Email from htc reads: sorry for two threads for some reason copy/past on my evo 4g LTE was giving me an issue for a moment so hadto create a new post to copy/paste exact reply from HTC.

Dear Bradley Lanphere,

Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC technical support. I am sorry to hear that your Evo 4G LTE is displaying a load screen when you exit apps. I will gladly assist you with this issue, Bradley.

I would first recommend that you check a few settings on your phone. Go into settings>developer options and under Application settings make sure Don't Keep Activities is unchecked and Background Process Limit is set to use the Standard Limit option. Once this is done, restart your Evo 46 LTE by holding the power button and choosing restart.

If the issue persists, I would also recommend that you try using the back arrow to exit the apps and not the home button. This will ensure that the app is exited properly and cleared from the memory. This issue can also sometimes be caused by the phone closing the HTC Sense application to allocate its memory for another application. You can try to reduce the memory usage of HTC Sense by removing widgets and icons from the home screen.

If you continue to experience the load screen after these steps, please let me know so I can assist you further, Bradley. Keep in mind, you can locate tips & tricks and your user manual on the Evo 4G LTE support page found here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-evo-4g-lte-sprint/

This really bites if I knew before hand the option that was already set when I got the phone was what was causing sense to constantly crash was a simple uncheck this...I would have never had this problem and wallet would be in full swing so now I emailed sprint/HTC and we will see what there planning to do because I didn't pay near $400 for this phone to have a bricked NFC feature all because of lack of info resulting in a factory reset bricking the NFC feature for wallet :( :( no way!!

Okay believe it or not I'm sitting here just now on the phone with my lady :-) and I accidentally hit google wallet and it seriously let me in and I took screenshots, I logged in, accepted the terms and conditions, and then it said activating account and right when I thought I had a chance it KICKED back to the secure element message :( :( although this is the 2nd time that I have been able to creep into google wallet again after the factory reset issue.. and this time I didn't clear the data, disable the app then try, I didn't touch anything this time and it almost worked and il bet I have an email from them again about starting google wallet like the last time I creeped in before it KICKED me out again :( il check and see I bet I do :-) but obviously that's no good :( and I'd post screenshots but I'm on my cell and I don't know how to post pics on phandroid from my cell :( lol oh and htc fixed the sense crashing issue for me :-) and the rep from HTC also is trying to fix the wallet issue for me. She asked for the Wallet software version on my phone, my phones serial number, android os #, imei # I believe and a few other software #'s, and build #'s so hopefully that's a good sign of hope! :-)

Well well well what do I have here...oh yeah the email I just received from google wallet when I somehow snuck in for the 2nd time now after the factory reset issue...
So this is progress kinda, atleast it goes to show that the secure element feature is definitely not as secure as google thinks. Im a non rooted user and I haven't altered anything and somehow I snuck back in, didn't 100% succeed but came darn near close this last time!! Ughhh lol :( :(

Welcome to Google Wallet, the app that makes your phone your wallet --and makes paying fast and saving simple.

Here's how to get started:

Set up your Citi (R) MasterCard (R) or the Google Prepaid Card --touch the "Payment cards" icon in the app, then select the card you would like to set up. For a limited time, get a free $10 automatically loaded on your Google Prepaid Card immediately after you set it up.

Visit a merchant that accepts MasterCard PayPass (R). Find one with the MasterCard Paypass (R) Locator app: http://market.android.com/details? id=com.mastercard.paypass"

If you have questions or need help, please visit our Help Center (http://www.google.com/support/wallet) or call us at 855-492-5538.

That I am not sure because obviously I was never informed to do that before hand, and now it's to late :( sorry buddy.. but I can't help ya on that one lol

Thanks anyway.... It seems that everything is working better today. I hope its going to be better from now on...... :D

Hey fellas quick question.... When I was having issues in store with activation (before I realized none of the numbers on the box matched the phone.. And then activated it myself). The woman at radioshack took it upon herself to reset my phone... How do I know if google wallet is bricked?... When I go into the app everything acts normal... It asks for my pin... And the cards show up all is good.... If it is bricked will it tell you there is a problem?... Or Wil it just not work for purchases.. With no real way to know if it is bricked?

Is the NFC chip built into the battery on the EVO? Like it is some other phones? Granted with HTCs sealed battery crap you can't replace it. But If it is, would an official battery replacment at a repair center work?

You know that the "secure element" is bricked if you get an error message that states it has stopped responding and to contact google wallet support, right after you type in your pin.

And just to reiterate for everyone, the NFC chip itself is not bricked, it would still be usable for beaming, apps, web pages, bookmarks, etc. you would only not be able to use google wallet.

The NFC chip is always independent of the battery... Some batteries however contain an antenna for the chip.

Thank you for that! Looks like I dodged a bullet there... I'm sorry this happened to you guys..I'm sure once some stock build sprint would be more than happy to replace the phone for you...

Well HTC just called me about the google wallet issue..he said they are currently working with google to figure out this issue and how to resolve the issue. And at the current time they don't have any timeframe for a resolution. But he said that as far as he knows it can be fixed via ota but google would haveto update google wallet to where it would allow me and everyone else with this issue to re gain access wether it's by calling google to verify I am who I say I am or by security questions etc.... So thank god it's not a hardware issue!! It's just the security feature got locked when I did a factory reset and now it's locked indefinitely because I activated google wallet and before I did the reset I didn't delete my account so now the app has locked me out because it thinks someone either stole my phone, or has hacked my information. So that's a security feature to prevent someone from accessing your money! But they currently don't have any way to allow the original owner to re gain access, in situations like this :( :(

Okay just as I was posting this now keep in mind I have left google wallet alone and haven't cleared the data, disabled the app nothing whatsoever....and up pops a message from google wallet as if I was in the app itself it reads system error: please restart your phone???? That has not happened to me not once since this mess, although I have re gained access to google wallet a few days ago twice actually I tried to open it and it worked it let me login, Accept the terms and conditions etc...and once I accepted the terms it kicked me back out both times and then showed the same old error message but this system error please restart your phone is new, and quite strange because all iv done was contacted sprint about the issue and seeing about a fix for it or a replacement device and HTC about the issue as well iv left the app alone for the past few days and all of a sudden this pops up? Hmmm we shall see il restart my phone gladly but I won't get my hopes up so here goes nothing :( lol

And the verdict is..believe it or not I restarted my device opened google wallet and it did give me hope for a split second it showed initializing device please wait with the loading circle spinning clockwise... But it didn't last unfortunately it disappeared in 2secs and showed my least favorite message ughhh secure element :(

Horrible to hear 814. I actually factory reset my Evo before setting up my account. No issued here but I plan on removing Google wallet altogether if possible to avoid anything like this.

I put out a few feelers for you earlier today with Google, 814, asking that they get it together with HTC.

Whether it was that or just good corporate responsibility, I am glad that they are staying in touch and keeping you informed.
