Root Sense Hero 2.1 ROM for ROOT Fully Working

I would like to instal this custom ROM on my Hero here in the Netherlands. There is only one problem. I do not know how. Is there a how-to for this.
I am also on a MAC, I do have an Windows PC, but i'm not sure if it is stil working...haha

TNX all for your help...!!!

It's looking like Stickmans working on the Keyboard Lag, The Pin Lock Problem and all the other niggles people posted.

That's the good thing about custom ROM's all the forum users test it report back and the problems get fixed.

Stickman seems to be an ace developer who listens to the peoples ideas and problems and gets them sorted quickly and efficiently.

Not like waiting 6 months for an official update from HTC.

Well I'm back in business - I must have restored something dodgy using Titanium to cause my initial problem. this time I'm putting things back gradually and with regular reboots and Nandroid backups. So far all is sweet:)
One question - when Stickman updates the ROM can it be installed over previous versions without a wipe like MoDaCo?

Okay out of pure curiosity (Ive had my Hero for a month) that update people keep talking about, will it make my phone look like the above screenshots ?

It will make your phone look like the above Screen Shots. Obviously you can change the Wallpaper but the overlying theme remains black.

In answer to the Updates usually you can just flash the update and not the entire ROM again. Stickman will advise what to do.

They should be probably be on in a day or 2.

No, that is a custom ROM and theme. It will look pretty much like your stock screen but with some new inner workings and add ons to make it nicer.

Phillevy, I see that you were running MoDaCo 3.2 like myself,is it worth changing to Sense 2.1? And do you have to wipe the SD card?
Cheers Paul

It's a CDMA (Sprint) ROM that has been ported to GSM.

I know, I was refering to this since Fresh is a sprint custom rom I believe.

Fresh Kitchen will root your phone in moments. Then just find the ROM you like. Havent tried Sticks ROM but will say they are essentially the same. I'm lovin DC 2.07....after updating the radio and applying the audio loss patch. It was not too good b4 that.

But I wonder if that's why you're having trouble with the SIM PIN phillevy? The option to set one is there in this ROM, but can a Sprint ROM actually handle SIM pins? (Since sprint phones don't use them).

I had some teething troubles but all seems fine now - it is definately worth the change. The only thing on the SD you have to wipe is your EXT partition if you are using apps2sd - you do this from the recovery image. The rest of your SD card remains as it was. I also recommend that after your first boot, as soon as you have set up your basic details (gmail etc), I would reboot again before you do anything else. As long as you have a recent Nandroid (or Nandroid + EXT) backup, it is easy to go back to MoDaCo if you want to.

No all is totally fine now - I think it was something else. Xtiro - can you answer my earlier question - will a wipe be necessary to apply any of Stickman's updates to this ROM?

OK, thanks Phil, I have a Nandroid backup so that's OK, is it also necessary to wipe dalvik-cache as well?
Cheers Paul

It's hard to say. I always try flashing without a wipe first, and sometimes it will will work fine and sometimes they won't even boot (like going from Villain 5.0 to 5.1 for me). So it's definitely possible to do it without a wipe, it just depends on what Stickman changes in his next release I guess.

I certainly hope you don't need to wipe though, its a real pain.

Jazman, you may as well wipe the dalvik-cache. It stores your apps settings (I think) and you just wiped all your apps :P

I was considering trying to apply another theme on top and see how that goes. Can't find the default as a skin though unfortunately.

OK, I did try and apply the ROM without doing a wipe and guess what it didn't work, no surprises there then, it got stuck on the boot screen, so I did a restore, the reason that I am so hesitant is that I don't wan to lose my contacts, which currently are only on the phone as there has been a syncing problem with Google for the contacts, so I cannot restore that info from the 'cloud'. Are the contacts held within the restore image? So if it doesn't work I can always do a restore and I will be no worse off.
Cheers, Paul

Jaz, if you're flashing an entirely different ROM it will never end well unless you wipe. Yes, your contacts are safe inside the nandroid backup, but I suggest you make some proper backups elsewhere. If you search 'Export Contacts' the first app that comes up will allow you to export a .csv file of all your contacts, which you can import into gmail/outlook/any program that has contacts should you ever need to recover them.

Thanks Xtiro, I do have a back up of my contacts, through 'export contacts' so that's OK, I have also made a copy of the SD card on my computer and I have Titanium as well, so I should be well covered in the event of a failure, but thanks for putting my mind at rest with regards to the contacts being held within the nandroid backup image which I wasn't sure about. I reckon that I'm now going to 'twist' and install the Sense 2.1 ROM, I'll let you know how I get on.

OK, I'm trying to intall the Sense 2.1 ROM, but when I try and wipe the ext file partition from within custom recovery mode (RA-hero-v1.2.3) I get an error as follows: Error : run wipe_ext via console I am lost at this point, perhaps I need to format the card?

when I try and erase ext partition I get the error "run wipe_ext via console" when rebooting I am stuck on the hero sense screen... any ideas?

many thanks.

OK, perhaps a more intelligent question should be 'How do I enable the console in order to run the command' There is no option from the recovery mode to enable console
