It seems as though the market pushes new versions. I've got 5.10 and my market is still themed - we'll see how long it lasts.

i found some directions about going to certain folders, and deleting one file or another, and making sure the V in vendor is capitalized........yeah that stuff wasnt in the folders that the instructions said it should be.

shame too because i have a reallly sweet themed version of market that i would LOVE to be using.

Just made the switch today from Cognition 3.04

Been on Cog for quite awhile and hesitated on flashing a new ROM because I didn't want to go the Odin route.

Seems I won't have to after all. Had everything ready for a full wipe if things didn't go well flashing over Cog. So far it seems everything is working for me. Even with it not being a clean install. I guess I'll see in the coming days if anything goes bonkers on me.
Hopefully not.

Really looking forward to seeing how much more battery life I get on this ROM. Seemed to be having to charge my phone way to much on Cog.

So far so good.

Well, FWIW, my market is still nicely themed. You updated to 5.10? Serendipity 5.10 Updated Themed Marked to 2.3.2

This didn't 'stick' for you?

well to be fair, it seemed like it was going to stick......so i thought "hey, maybe the other one will work now" and flashed it......then it reset itself to the stock on.

ill have to re-flash the update tonight. while the theme included isnt exactly what i want its a lot better than the white one

do you know if i reflash the update if it will take ok? or will i have to go back to stock first.....i guess ill find out

My battery performance seems to have decreased dramatically when I switched to Serendipity (on 5.9). Am I missing some setting or add-on? Thanks.

Also, should I flash the "Steam Kernel"?

i flashed without ODINing back to stock about 8ish times before i started having wierd problems......even then the only thing i noticed is that my phone would no longer download a file, of ANY time, from ANY source. it would allways say something like "file not supported by phone"

im so comfortable now with it all though ill just flash to stock before changing roms in the future. i think it only takes me about 20 minutes total

hmm thats odd. i didnt see a decrease. to be honest i didnt notice ANY change either way.

even so far even being overclocked to 1.4ghz im not noticing a dramatic change. as far as i can tell it only gone down a SLIGHT bit.

were you stock before you changed over? do you normally run settings to save battery life even stock? like lower brightness, auto brightness off, GPS and wifi off (unless needed) ?

I am pretty sure I am running similar settings, and have like usage patterns, as when I was on stock. Just wondering if I was missing something as my battery went from 100% to 20% overnight with no usage; no WiFi but 3G. In stock it might have gone to 90% in similar circumstances. I'll monitor a bit more and follow-up. Thanks.

You should be find to just reflash 5.9-5.10. There would be no reason to go back to stock, you can wipe in recovery and flash the full ROM if it gets that bad.

Check your wifi sleep settings, it sometimes gets set to never, I set mine to 'when screen is off'

Also, should I flash the "Steam Kernel"?
That's totally up to you. I've never bothered with it, SpeedMod works just fine for me. I have no desire to overclock/undervolt, that's too much work for me :)

Another question for those using serendipity. Have any of you used these customs themes i keep seeing on the other forums? the non market themes, things that actually change the status bar icons and whatnot. im not a fan of the included green stuff and would like to change it. but digging through that forum isnt getting me anywhere, i see lots of themes, and they all say compatible with this or that but i have yet to see anything says "compatible with serpendipity" or whatever.

id like to be able to change over to at least having blue status bar icons, and notification menu icons, maybe more, but im coming up short in my search.

i was running perception 10 for a while and recently switched to serendipity and i must say both roms are very good but i love being able to update serendipity without wiping the i just went from 5.8 to 5.10 tonight without a hitch and also updated my kernal too. works great

as for a theme i am using this one and it gives me no problems

[THEME]Generation X - V2.0 CYAN&HARD-BLUE ADDED - JPU/X/Y/JS3 - 4LOCK [04-02-11] - xda-developers

there are alot of colors to choose from i like the blue as i also am not a big fan of the green

It seems like themes are "Baseband version" dependent, at least that's the impression I have. With Serendipity we have I9000UGJK4, aka JK4. It seems like every theme I look at has a baseband version other than JK4. But based on ~ Reaper~'s comment above, maybe any dependencies are variable?

edited to add: I guess Serendipity is JPY-based. I did flash a few themes onto Serendipity 5.9 successfully.

All that number means is I9000 (that's the Galaxy S designation) and the UGJK4 modem. That really doesn't have anything to do with theming.

my battery life seems to be great on 5.10 so far

of couse i do have the recomended settings like wifi off when screen is off etc

i unplugged it last night @ 100% and 12 hours later it is @ 82%

aaaha! a very nice gentleman on the XDA forum updtated all the theme versions for market......so i got the one i wanted to stick. sweet

Posted this over at xda also.

Had a black screen after boot on my home screen today after installing the Samsung Email and the Circle Battery addon from the kitchen.

Luckily I had Widget Locker running on the lock screen and installed a shortcut to the settings. After going into settings and then back out the home screen was there. But not after booting again. Uninstalled Launcher Pro (I guess my default launcher wasn't starting). Reinstalled and booted a few more times and it finally cleared up.

Didn't do the cleanest install of this ROM could be a hiccup from that. Could be LP doing something funky. Didn't really have any issues till I did the addon install from the kitchen. Just thought I would share in case anyone else has something similar happen.

I did see some posts in various forums about LP doing something like this. Might be the cause.

What do you mean by 'Didn't do the cleanest install of this ROM'? Did you come from a different ROM and not wipe?

Exactly. Flashed right over Cog 3.04. Even on their FAQ page it says to try a flash from CWM and see if it works first. And it did work. Only issue so far didn't even pop up till I installed something from the Addon Kitchen.

Someone on xda said 5.10 was just an update anyway. Guess I'm supposed to flash from a certain point in the development. It wasn't to clear on that point or I missed it.

Guess I'm just trying to avoid flashing to stock with Odin but I'll probably have to do it someday regardless. Already had it downloaded and ready. Just trying to figure out how many updates of Serendipity I have to download now. How far to go back in the ROM.

Reading thru this other thread.

Just flashing 5.10 gave me the K13B: 16-Feb-2011 Speedmod Kernel from Feb16. Just one kernel update since then and that was today. Don't know if that makes any difference.

Saw your post on xda Reinbeau. Will do a full wipe and start with 5.10. Doesn't sound to bad since I already have it downloaded and backups made from yesterday.

I did read through it, and answered it over there. If you were going to just flash a version over Cog (something I wouldn't do, but we all have our ways) you should have flashed the full version of whatever was current - i.e. right now, you'd flash the full version of 5.10 and then step upgrade from there. There is no reason to start with 5.0 and step up from there. Way too much work.

When you say "Step Upgrade" you mean from this point forward correct 5.10>5.11?

yes flash back to stock then flash 5.10 and you should be good to go then when 5.11 comes out you just flash that update no need to flash to stock again
