Root setcpu acting funny :O

heehee

Newbie
Specs:
Superclean .9
Stupidfast 1.54 (stable one i believe 1 ghz)
DJ05 radio
Superdark theme

I installed Setcpu a couple of days ago.... these were my settings for it
Temp > 49.8 = 800 mhz. (90 priority)
Screen off = 400 mhz. (80)
Battery < 25% = 400 mhz. (70)

everything on conservative mode.

Everything was good until today.....2 things. 1. my phone would freeze 30 seconds ish into a conversation (actual talking, not text) and 2. The display sometimes wouldn't appear after clicking the power button to get to the unlocking screen.

I don't get whats going on haha... it was fine when i first installed it... now it's being really weird.

lastly.... i can only set the mhz to 200, 400, 800, 1000.... is there any way to increase/decrease in increments on 100????

thanks for everything guys!

Profiles often dont take or dont work using setcpu and the SF. I assume you have the most current 2.1.0 version too? Still we have been advised not to tinker with profiles, Ive never used them myself. Apparently it does not play nice on our SGS

ahhhh i was not aware of that!... yeaa i use the 2.1.0 :]

but is there any real/other use for setcpu then??? i was going to use it just to underclock speeds in profiles :o

dont want to delete >< its such an amazing program

Mainly overclocking your phone on the fascinate. You can set the speed at 800mhz too if you want to save on some battery.

You'll just have to manually adjust the sliders as you need. A tad more work and less convenient but still a viable option

ahhhh haha... ok gotcha! but is there a way to change the increments?

i mentioned in the above post that mine moves 200 400 400 800 1000..... is there any way to get it to move in 100s???

Yeah just slide the sliders. 1st make sure you have auto detected the kernel. 2nd you can even adjust the max down to 100 but I would not. This phone really starts to lag at 400Mhz and 200Mhz is a turtle crawl. Trust me Ive tried it. 100Mhz should always be the min though its best for long battery life, why waste cycles and power when phone is sleeping? The kernel steps are set at 100 200 400 800 and 1000 by default and almost every custom kernel has kept the bottom 4 steps in tact. Only the top speed is adjusted on an OC kernel.
Anyone who wants ridiculous battery life should consider an undervolted kernel and set the max to 800. There is a minimally tangible difference in the real world performance between 800 and even 1200 as your top speed.

hmmm ... im using 1.54 stupidfast.. which i think is undervolted. ill try it at 800 mhz and see how it goes!

thanks a bunch saps

Yes it is that should be a good choice if you are not using voodoo. Critical is running your min at 100Mhz. If you are like me thats where the phone spends most of its time and where the real battery savings can occur. Capping the top at 800Mhz will also help too

holy crap hahah.... my phones been unplugged for 4h 30min now..... and the battery is still at 89%. thats pretty amazing. ive been emailing, texting, and even made a 20-30 min phone call too. D:

:DTold Ya;)
Great Stuff, the battery life certainly can be maximized with the right set up

21 hrs --- 44%! so much better than before....

anyways, was reading a post about battery life.... some guy used an app called APNdroid to shut off internet (?) and sync.... and then turned off background data ... is all that even necessary? I was thinking about turning off background data but doesnt that mean i wont get emails right when theyre sent?

My 2 cents.... Juice Defender does exactly that, turn off your background data and internet connection when the screen is off. This way, you will save battery, but beware if you use google voice for texting, since your internet will be off when the screen is off, you won't be able to receive your text until your screen turns on. Your girl might get mad and think your phone was off or something and really u were using juice defender, thankfully, i bought her her own SF so she uses juicedefender also and we get the 1.Xx battery life it claims. i usually get 1.6x - 1.9x battery life with juicedefender, according to juicedefender... i can't see how it can hurt battery if it just turns off my internet intermittently

but doesnt that mean I wont get emails or texts while my screen is off? :[ cant do that hahah..... I def dont want to get into a habit of turning my screen on every 5 minutes to check XD...plus im sure id waste more battery doing that >< ill just stick to underclocking my cpu i guess.... its been 25h 30m now (moderate use) and i still have 30% battery left. thank you tho!

Yeah thats the trade off. If you want instant data sync or periodic. Also, IMO all you need is one full days worth of battery and then charge while you sleep so for most 16 hours or so if all you need. So given your new numbers you could probably turn data back on sync or have it sync periodically. Or keep an extra charger nearby. The catch22 is the more you use it the more the battery drains of course. Your should have your phone the way you want it and you should feel free to use it at will. I've never used Juice Defender but they supposedly help. Turning screen brightness down, not using live wallpaper, all that stuff helps. undervolted kernels IMO help more than anything

haha my new numbers include data sync being on and background data being on.... but youre right. I dont need my battery to last me days. I do have my brightness all the way down... but it def makes my fascinate look a liiiiiiittle bit crappier :D. I agree with the kernel part. after i UC'd it to 800... my battery life skyrocketted

you might give adrynalyne kernel a looksie then its the full Ghz and it has the same massive UV. or maybe even the 1.1 OTB from nemesis its the same UV as adrynalynes 1Ghz plus 10% extra speed on the top

mmm... which would you recommend? and where can i find them?
My speed currently is pretty good. Its my first droid phone so im not a 100% sure what to expect. There isnt any lag between switching screens/apps/etc.

Also.....as for voodoo kernels, I read mixed reviews.... some say they arent really much better + they can cause huge problems... and other say that some of them are amazing. What's your take on them?

Voodoo5 is fine and dandy no problems whatsoever with uninstalling it. I have uninstalled and re-enabled voodoo 5 at least 20 times.

As for my recommendation and where to find it http://androidforums.com/fascinate-all-things-root/235766-got-your-oc-voodoo-right-here-but.html first post. I say run ul if you can. I think everyones phone can run the 1100Mhz test5 which is ul from there try the 1200 if its stable. Only 5% of peeps can run 1300
