Help SGS2 Sound

Hi,

firstly great site, the most informative ive seen, well done :D

Secondly, im planning on popping my andriod virginity with the S2, cant wait to get rid of the now failing nokia... but every video and page i look at raves on and on about the screen....so they should....its more than impressive, but i would still like to know some other stats which pend on my choice like the sound.

anyone got a link or stat on the volume? how loud it goes?
i ask having a 5800 Xpress which is dam loud and a friend has a Desire HD which is quite poor on the volume really. (only thing it lets it down IMO.)

Yeah i have seen a couple of clips where they play a quick clip or game, just wondered if anything else was out there. a great screen wont help me hear the dam thing ring! lol.

I don't think anyone here can really answer that clearly at this stage. I expect its loudspeaker to be light years better than the HTC, I have a Desire and a Galaxy S and difference is stunningly in favour of the SGS. It won't be as loud as the 5800's speaker though, that handset is quite renowned for the quality of its loudspeaker.
 
OMG Nokia stereo speakers woohoo! My Nokia 6233 use to be my boombox.

Speaker tech hasn't evolved much. All comes down to physics. Bigger, thicker phones will have bigger drivers and louder volume. The original Galaxy S is kind of mediocre, not that pleasant to listen to either, and I expect the SGS2 to be about the same. If NZtechfreak says it will be light years ahead of HTC devices, then by golly it shall be! :p
 
I personally don't think the speaker is going to be as good as your Nokia.
They focused more on the screen and internal hardware then the speaker.
The exterieur of the speaker also doesn't look premium if you ask me...

yeah i dont expect many to match the nokia, but its something i think about when sometimes i dont hear it ring!! other things like being hands free when doing other things.
battery life im keen to see to. small things that will make the difference between this and the HTC sensation.

if its true the screen just dimms down as it gets hot, well....thats a key selling point for me. Not that i LIKE it becoming hot, that is has the ability to deal with it.
 
From all the random forum members getting retail and prototype units over on xda, it corroborates the suspected impression that it really isn't better than the Galaxy S, and that makes sense.
 
If it is anything like the original SGS, then I will be very happy.
I find the SGS to be very loud for such a small phone.
Much, much louder than my Brother's HTC Desire.
 
Probably loud enough, but for picky people like me it won't sound good at that loudness. Good enough to hear the phone ringing, and the speaker quality is even less important because I usually use one of those 8-bit cutsey ringtones, but it could be better, much better for sure, if they had added a couple of millimeters, which could've probably made the phone less wide as well and had given other benefits. Both my Wave and Galaxy S had rather underwhelming speakers. They had that kind of distorted sound that made me feel queasy or earsplitting, for speakerphone and music, but I'm just spoiled :p. They compare to say, your typical Sony-Ericsson bar phone, or any cheap flip phone. In comparison, my Samsung g600 slider, which uses the earpiece as a speaker, has a pretty awesome full and clear sound. Than there are the Nokias, the stereo boomboxes of the phone world.
 
I find that when watching YouTube on my HTC Desire without headphones (Speaker is tooo terrible to listen to music through!) I have to put my hand behind the phone so that the sound is reflected back in my direction: A big annoyance of having the speaker on the back.

Anyone know where the speaker on the SGSII is?

Also, My Desire seems to have a very low volume output from the headphone jack. Any idea if this could be an issue on the SII?
 
The speaker is on the back, at the bottom. It's not a good place, but it is a better speaker than the Desire had. I don't need to cup my hand around it any more!
 
i found that too Lob. speakers can be made/set up differently though. IMO i think the desire has just a cheap crap speaker over its placement.

but its still something to think about when buying a case...especially one of those "pocket" cases...you wont hear a thing.
