Shapewriter...ROCKS!

ShapeWriter comes up some weird words not even close to what I wanted, but the punctuation and capitalization are better. Keyboard is alot smaller and the suggestion box is annoying because it takes up alot of room.
Yeah, I don't know why but I seem to do better with Shapewriter. I'm going to give Swipe another chance today, though. We'll see if it's any better for me.

What are some things you find Swype does better than Shapewriter? I'm curious as to maybe I'm missing something.

Thanks

I like when I type a single character word like "a", Shapewriter just goes with it. It seems like Swype is waiting for me to type additional characters and then puts the stupid pop-up window for me to select the letter "a" again. I am using both Swype and Shapewriter. It would be cool to have a blend of the two. My ideal would be the looks of Swype and the functionality of Shapewriter (and no pop-ups).

I don't have a problem inputting single characters with swype
Yeah, I do like Shapewriter's word options as well. Just seems to be a bit easier for that. I also like that you can still type normally with ShapeWriter. When I try it with Swype it starts adding spaces.

With auto spacing turned on, when I type each character to form the password "h0m3", I get "h 0 m 3" (unneeded spaces) from Swype with many popups. Shapewriter gives me is "h0m3" (no spaces) with no popups. Super simple. Why does Swype make it so difficult?

Shapewriter is pretty cool. Especially for longer words with 6+ characters. Kind of a pain for short words like "and", "the", "or" etc

What sort of problems are with the shorter words? I know it doesn't detect "too" or "poor", ect. They have to be selected from the list. Maybe I just haven't come across the short word problems yet.

For some reason, swype seems easier to type with. Shape Writer was coming up with some crazy words and the keyboard is smaller, so I opted for swype. The pop-up box is annoying, but if you hit the space bar, it goes away.

Yeah, I used Shapewriter for a couple days and just went back to Swype and I think I like Swype better now.. It seems like I can type faster with it and it's more accurate...

I'm absolutely loving ShapeWriter right now. I tried to install Swype, but apparently I had ]the wrong version for the Hero's resolution. If someone could please motivate me to try Swype, I would appreciate it.

I have to say that of all the apps I run on my Hero, Shapewriter was the first to have a real "WOW!!!" effect on me. It just worked. I am still getting used to it but something I noticed may help any who have accuracy issues.

I don't know exactly what logic they use to determine candidate words but it seems to me that the first character is all important. It seems to do a pretty good job if I miss and can still work out what I mean. But I now pay just a fraction of a second more attention to ensuring that I hit the first character of each word correctly (it's almost subconscious, so I don't want to imply I am significantly delaying my entry of words). Shapewriter also displays the character pressed which helps. Getting that first character right seems to help a lot with word recognition.

Thanks.

Mark

As far as the pop-up goes, you can adjust the frequency that it appears as well as the amount of time it stays up in the Swype settings, under Locale & Text. Also if you just keep on typing the pop-up will go away and put the word at the top(the one in bold) in your dialog box.

Thought it might be just me, but I had the exact same issue and have been using ShapeWriter instead. Would love to try Swype if I could get arounf the resolution issue.

What resolution issue is it that you guys speak of? I am using Swype on my hero no problem.

After Googling "swype android download" the file that I found is apparently the Droid/Nexus version of Swype, and I am unable to find the Hero version.

Since there are a number of us that prefer the Shapewriter over Swype, what improvements would Shapewriter fans like to see to Shapewriter?

I would like to see:
1) A more appealing UI. Maybe make it skin-able. The current UI looks like a plain wrapper that store branded goods come in. It is not eye pleasing.

I am sure this is a "duh!" question but...

How do I hide the keyboard with Shapewriter? I know there's an option to spell (shape) the word "Hide" aftre the "Shapewriter" key but that seems pretty long winded. Most keyboards I have used before seem to allow me to swipe down from the top to the button but this doesn't work in Shapewriter.

Thanks.

I always just hit the back button.

Redownloaded Swype last night and got it running correctly without anymore "wrong resolution" errors. Used Apps Installer from the market to get it installed. Maybe I haven't used it enough, but I think I like ShapeWriter better. ShapeWriter just seems more polished. Maybe its the interface or maybe I just used it more and got used to it, not sure.
