shell/holster combo problem

I actually ordered the one off ebay and it is the same problem with the upper right hand corner not catching the edge.

there was actually another problem also. the tab that connects to the sliding part of the phone would hit the keyboard when you open or close it, automatically bringing up the search feature. the easiest way to fix that problem is to just file it down a bit.

I would like to file down the lip just below the soft keys. Has anybody done this?

There is no tab that could hit the keyboard on the one that Verizon sells that looks exactly like the ebay one. Did you put the screen piece half on upside down? There is a cutout for the microphone that goes on the mic end. If you install it upside down then there are tabs that will hit the keyboard.

I put two thin pieces of electrical tape along the left rail of the keyboard and no problems. Actually. Makes the keyboard slide nice and tight.

yeah i made sure everything was on correctly

I circled where i had to shave down in the pic. I didnt file it down completely, the tab still functions as it should. If i wanted to get rid of it i wouldve just taken a razor to it

The one I bought from Verizon has no tab where you show. There aren't any tabs along that edge at all.

Edit: You know, there was a rumor of a recall of this case by Verizon, which was never validated as far as I know. I wonder if there actually was a recall because of this tab interference and they ended up on ebay.

Edit #2: Do you have 2 tabs on the other side opposite the volume and camera buttons?

yup. the top case that goes around the screen has 7 tabs total -
2: USB
2: Speaker
2: Camera/ Volume Adjustment
1: Headphone

The one I got from Verizon has 5. There are none on the USB side. I'm guessing that the first ones were really recalled and scrapped because of this possible keyboard damage and someone bought the scrap cheap and is selling them on ebay.

Edit: Hey, I just noticed that the photo on the Verizon site and the one above that you copied from there show those 2 tabs on the USB side. That must be an old photo of the original case before it was redesigned to remove those and make sure that the edge of the screen side case doesn't hang below the phone case and touch the keyboard.

I guess we all know why they were recalled then. Did they fix the upper righthand corner problem with yours also?

No. And a guy on another forum just got one from his Verizon store yeaterday and it has the upper right problem too. I bit the bullet today and just filed the tab off. It's not really needed. The case is not about to get loose without it. It's hard enough to get off without it. I don't think they care about that problem, as it won't cause any problem, except for driving us perfection folks (anal folks???) nuts. :) The 2 tabs on the USB side might tear off the keyboard key stickers, so that is a real problem.

I find it very difficult to remove the phone from the body glove. It almost feels like I may break the phone. And when I try to put back on, if I am not careful, I sometimes get caught on the lip/side of the phone by the usb port and I almost take apart the phone! Have others had this issue? Should I return/exchange it?
I have to agree, I love the body glove case, the way it looks and fits and the protection it offers. My problem is i love my multimedia station also, and it now sits on my end table beside my bed because when i do try and take the body glove off it wants to rip the phone apart.Personally i loved just setting the phone in the dock and have it charge and see the weather and set alarms and so on, but the protection the body glove offers seems to trump the media dock for me at this time. I feel like i wasted 30 bucks on the dock now.

Here is my fix for that, I used the "guts" of the MM dock and made my own that works perfectly with the shell case and has the built in charger connector..

Fwiw when I got my Droid from Best Buy, I bought a case similar to this Verizon one......it just doesn't have the belt holster. Its also glossy black, instead of flat black.......not sure on the brand, but I can check it anyone would like for me to.

I got this Verizon case, and immediately found it dragging the keys. I took the screen protector from the Verizon piece off, and put on the gloss one from my Best Buy cover.....and it works fine. Can't really tell the difference from the top to bottom either....and and also fits perfectly in the holster.

Got the Droid on Friday. :) BTW, really liking it so far.

Got the VZW holster combo today.

No issues with mine that I can see. Fits pretty snug all around. Fits nicely in holster. Although, I'll probably never use the holster.

Don't think that I have the upper-right-hand issue with mine.

It also has only the 5 tabs on the top piece. No tabs by the USB port. Asked the guy at the VZW store, and he had no knowledge of a recall.

Only "issue" I had was the case scraping off the edge of the plastic sticker on the underside of the screen. No biggie. May just peel that piece off anyway, once I determine that it won't cause an issue (seen a few discussions on it, but not sure what the consensus was).

May end up trying this and getting the seidio case if people say it's better. But again, no complaints so far with this one.

I got the one from ebay, it has 5 taps on the top piece as well. Looks good, only problem i have run into is when sliding the keyboard out, that top piece tap by the usb seems to push the buttons down when it slides. Usually the search comes up.

After a few days of Droid ownership, I bought one of the official Motorola Droid Shell/Holster combos (the one everyone started posting here).

I returned mine.

I liked the concept, but I had two problems with the design:

1) The case is hard plastic, and not a soft plastic. While a minor issue, I purchased the shell as protection when (not "if" :o) I drop my Droid. The hard plastic won't absorb nearly as much of the impact that soft plastic would from a drop to the concrete.

2) The major problem (and the main reason I returned it) was this: Every time I opened the slide-out keyboard, some of the keys would get accidentally "pressed" by part of the cover plastic that surrounded the screen. It effectively made the slide-out keyboard totally useless.

I returned it, and went with the $10 Motorola soft rubberized case, and added a Ghost Shield for good measure. The Droid sits comfortably in my pocket - not problems so far ...

Whats your definition of hard/soft plastic? I think this case compared to "hard cases" is rather soft and flexible.

And for the second part, I just filed down the tab a bit and it works flawlessly

My holser fits fine, I guess it was an issue with certain ones that shipped. The only problem I have with it is that it's still a bit more slippery than I'd like. I need material with more grip.

It sounds to me like you guys have the top piece installed upside down. If there are only 5 tabs then none of these should be on the side that the USB port is on. Check to make sure that the mic cutout is at the bottom of the phone by the mic and not at the top.

The case is on right, the tab hits the keys slightly, filing it down just a bit solves the problem.

Alright already! Really!

The fact remains that the ones that are being sold by Verizon don't have to be filed down to keep any tabs from hitting the keyboard. There aren't any tabs there. If someone has one with 5 tabs and still has a problem scraping the keyboard then something else is wrong. In any case, I wasn't responding to you, so you can ignore me if you don't like it. By the way, you don't tell me when I can post. If I think that I can help, I will post without getting your permission.
