Help Short Battery Life

It's pretty sad that with these great phones, we have to disable everything that makes them great in order to have the phone last an entire day.

That said, I also have everything shut off via smart actions when the screen is off, although how much that really saves since I'm always turning it on to check stuff, is anyone's guess. One thing I have installed that saves batery (i think anyway), is Screen Filter. You can set it to darken the screen way lower than what default settings will go, which is really handy at night since you really don't need much brightness anyway. I run Screen Filter at around 30% and it's bright enough to see, but not too bright where it's wasting battery.

Since the recent OTA, my battery life is just fine. I get through the day easy with moderate use. I recommend really taking time to set up the Smart Actions and limiting the syncs. I have found that they hurt your battery more than the 4g, which has really improved since the update.

Also, watch out for Task Killer apps. I have noticed personally that they end up hurting my battery more than saving it because they are ALWAYS running and at a heavy rate. Dunno if that Droid Wall does that, too.
Dude now what is your android version and build number?

Rahul, most folks here are running the CDMA Razr. The builds are different, I believe from you GSM version.

Mine (cdma) reads6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US

Nope. Not what I was insinuating. Is your phone searching for signal often? that is the biggest drain, if you aren't on it constantly. Mine gets wiped quick because I'm using it constantly. If I can leave it in my pocket, I'm good to go. It'll last 12 or more hours with normal use.

Ya it often search for signals...
But I cant help it!
In my country there is only one CDMA carrier which doesn't support data plans :(
I had no other option

Note with the update to .173, disable cellular data is no longer an option. If you still have it on your phone after the update, then it is a holdover from an older rule. You won't be able to create new rules easily that shut off data.

So is there any way to shut off the cellular connection? I mean like use an app or through terminal?

You can turn of data through the settings menu.

I believe this is a short term issue. This feature had had problems, and motorola got an earful during the last two soak tests about how this feature wasn't reconnecting fast enough, especially when people had it set up to disable data when on wifi. It its too darn useful and a great battery saver, though, for them to just abandon it.

Because of the building that I work in, mine had to work pretty hard to keep the data connection. And since we have WiFi here at work (which is where I spend 8-10 hours of my day), I just use a smart action to shut off all data usage once I connect to the WiFi. You could even take it a step further and have it shut it off when you connect to any WiFi. I easily get a day with mine since I begun to take advantage of the smart actions.

Doesn't android do that automatically? If it's connected to Wifi it uses wifi for data. I'm pretty sure you're only saving a marginal amount of battery doing this, if any.

For the first week that I had my phone I was struggling to get through the entire day, but once I figured out how easy smart actions were to set up I was dramatically surprised how much battery it saved by shutting it off completely. It has to stay on because any MMS (picture or video) that you get will use your data connection instead of your WiFi. That simple smart action has made all of the difference in the world with my phone.

Turning off 4G and leaving 3G on was the biggest improvement I saw. I went from having 10% battery left at 10pm to having 50% battery left at 10pm.

I use wireless mostly so it was smart to do for me. For someone not on wireless that uses a lot of data then this is not an option for you.

Also if you turn cellular data off, say goodbye to any pic/vid texts. I know my wife loves to send me pics of our son from time to time so I can't turn that off. Well at least until Text Plus finally gets their act together and lets people send pics and vids.

That is the only downfall, but the few that I do get sent to me I see them waiting to be downloaded and just turn on the data to download the pic/video. I am like you though, I saw huge battery savings once I figured it out.

You can also send pictures/video through email. If the sender has access to email on their phone that is an option.

I am having great battery life. I use the Smart Actions Battery Extender. Triggers: Display:Off and Charging:Not Charging and the Actions are: Disable Cellular Data, Background Sync off, GPS off, Wifi off and Bluetooth off.

I charged my phone Sunday night with the power turned off (03/04). Turned it on around 5:00AM Monday (03/05) and at 3:30pm today (03/06) I am at 50%.

This is with several text messages and a few phone calls (a few minutes each) and a little bit of time in the APP market and on Facebook.

Now, over the weekend, I was on it alot both Sat and Sun. I was home both days and with heavy usage on wifi, I was getting 8-9 hrs before it got down to 15%.

Very pleased with this phone! I am also only on 3G as I don't yet have 4G in my area.

Have been running Juice Defender the last few days since I've given up on Smart Actions (it never works, even deleting actions/resetting doesn't fix the issue). I have to admit, JD lives up to the hype. Before, just on idle, my phone would drop to 50% by 3pm or so each day. With JD, I'm looking at 70% or more around the same time. By the time I put it on charger for the night, it's down to 50%-60%, which is incredible for me.

Until I see otherwise, JD owns SA.

I charged my phone last night with the power off. Turned it on this morning at 5:30 and sitting idle with SA on and only several text messages and picture taking it is at 90% at 4:16pm.

I had the Droid Razr for only a few days but I installed a battery monitor app and found that when the Media service was running, the battery drained 10x faster and the phone actually got hot. Once I learned to keep the services turned off, the phone stayed charged for ... well for a lot longer.

Media Service? what do you mean by that?

I'm not sure what triggers the media service - maybe streaming video - but I found it when using the battery widget by geekyoup located here:

Also, I'm using the Advanced Task Killer by Rechild which really saves on battery life by allowing me to kill everything when I'm not using the phone:
