Root Should I accept OTA Gingerbread?

RN-Dude

Lurker
I just went through the ordeal of unrooting my Froyo EVO to hand it over to Sprint for repair. Now that it's back in my hands, I'm wondering if I should repeat Unrevoked and try to flash a Gingerbread ROM, or is it safe to accept the OTAs and get Gingerbread that way, then take the Revolutionary pathway to root?

By the way, I had a talk with the tech about, hypothetically, what do they do if they encounter a rooted phone. He replied that some of them, if they are nice, will hand it back and say return it to stock before they see it again, IF its just rooted with no custom ROM. Otherwise, they flag they flag the warranty as void, just like he says they're supposed to. No surprises on this to most of you I'm sure, but this is the first time I've heard it personally from a Sprint tech.

Anyhow, so which is my best way back to root?

Hmmm. Then I guess I'll have to pick a rooted Gingerbread ROM. I suppose any one is going to be just as offensive to Sprint as any other. Any favorites to point me to?

I liked the Mik 3-d b1. (Assuming you meant sense GB roms...)
I do like CM7 though. Really quite nice.

I don't think sprint would be offended, they'd just be saddened. ;)

NEVER accept the OTA updates. Just root what you have and select a rooted ROM that you want. Accepting the OTA does nothing for your phone that a rooted Ging ROM will do to.
