Help Should I root my DX? I need some advice.

Here's the deal: I like my DX. But I find it to be kind of laggy. I love the customizations (e.g. better keyboards) but want a more polished finish like iOS. I hate how my DX requires so much up keep. Memory starts to get low and it requires my phone be reboot every few days and I often have to force close applications from hogging memory.

I am not a super techie person and also would like to keep the ability to return the phone if there's a problem or perhaps a physical problem with the device. These things aren't made out of steel.

So, I feel like rebooting might help the lag/memory problems, but it would be difficult for me as a non-techie and destroys my warranty. Additionally, I am worried it will not solve my "up keep time" problem, where I am investing a lot of time keeping my phone working. It's annoying.

Perhaps I am not looking at this the right way. Perhaps you can revert a rooting so that the warranty is not voided and I can send it back to Verizon. But please provide your thoughts given my situation. Thanks in advance.

memory starts to get low because its designed to...Android is a multi-tasking OS...its designed to store apps in memory...

as for the warranty its a moral issue...there are ways to unroot...and they can't find out...but technically your warranty is still void...

How much time could you possibly be spending on "upkeep?" If its that bad then there is something wring with your phone...

Personally im not sure rooting is for you...it seems that you're dead set on an iOS experience and you're not gonna find that from rooting your device...the majority of cuatom ROMs are even more barebones than a stock X when compared to iOS

My suggestion would be to try an SBF back to Froyo combined with a data wipe...than you can decide if you want rooted 2.3.3 or non-rooted 2.3.3 and you can go from there...

As for memory issues my suggestion would be to try messing with an app called autokiller...not any task managers...and to use a third party launcher...

1. Do 3rd party launchers take up more battery? I read they actually HURT memory.

2. How does rooting affect battery life and lag on the phone?

3. I read that eFuse prevented DX rooting. Was this bad reporting?

Memory that doesn't get used is wasted memory.

1. Not an issue.

2. Rooting doesn't change anything except let you install/change stuff that potentially make your phone unbootable. That's why it wasn't rooted when you brought it home. Only developer phones are rooted.

3. Look at all the people that are rooted. What do you think?

in theory, yeah they will use more battery because its a app that is running...but i barely EVER have LauncherPro even show up in my list of apps using battery...and even when it does its 1 or 2% at most...

yes they will also use memory, but its irrelevant because Android is designed to keep apps in memory

rooting itself does NOTHING to your phone other than allow you access to certain areas of the OS which generally are not available...

when you initially root your phone absolutely NOTHING will change except that you will have a new app called "super user" in your app drawer...

that was a common belief when the phone had JUST been released...but just take a look at the "all things root" section and you can see how many of us are rooted...
