It was a worry for me as well. The rooting of the phone was easy enough but getting the new ROMs on was a big problem for me.

If you want to root and flash a new ROM go for it, apparently it is very hard to completed bugger up your phone and the guys on here are very helpful.

I have a couple of threads in the "all thing root" section that I got lots of help with to finally get it sorted.

it could be the "extended controls" widget which is available from the market for 0.79 EUR.

i don't know about any free widgets but i'd recommend the Switch Pro widget. it's also available from the market and is another bargain at 0.99p

affordable for even the most frugal desire user.....

This is where I got the new font, and the weather and the smooth calendar (transparent) versions.

The battery widget is BattStat and the clock is Tajm.

It's not free but it's really cheap, I've used it since the day I got my Desire.

the free version only allows you to choose from a limited selection of slide/swipe screens.

the pro version allows you to access the full range of screens and change the background photo or clock.

Try Widget Locker.

I bought Lockbot before I knew about Widget Locker and I couldn't get Lockbot to work either, it didn't take over my HTC lockscreen even though I definitely had the option ticked, so I got a refund.

Widget Locker works perfectly

Yes you can customize the slider on widget locker. You have a few options like sense slider, iphone slider and standard android slider.

Downloaded the free version but couldn't seem to get it to work

I used the lockbot free version for about 2 weeks, then updated and it stopped working as should. So much so i had to un-install it.

I'm looking for the next good free lockscreen, although the Sense one works with my new wallpaper. I'd still like a different wallpaper though.

I got a problem with my beautiful HTC Desire. I used dropbox to transfer a .rar file(with some icons) and when I chose what program to open it with, I missclicked and clicked "updater" - so now, every time I try to open that file - I get a message saying "blablabla process has stopped". So my question is;

how to make astro file manager the default program to open .rar files?

go to manage applications... whatever program is currently opening it, go "clear defaults". Next time you try to open you will get the menu again asking what to use.
