Root Simple unrEVOked 3 rooting for stock Incredible or Evo on 2.2

trying the root,
I cant figure out how to check my sd card all the instructions say is:

Verify that you have an SD Card installed with at least 2Gb free space. If the SD is smaller than 4Gb, make sure it is FAT32 formatted. Look at it on your PC or Mac to be sure.

So how do I do this, I click on computer and there is f-g-h drives that are my dinc which drive is the SD and all say file type unknown, Its the stock 2 gig sd card


Also f drive has a auto run pop up that says Verizon mobile? no mention this will happen

Right-click on one of the drives and choose "Properties" and check the total capacity. The one closest to 2 GB (1.94) will be the SD card. The other ones will be the phone storage (6 GB) and a virtual CD drive that Verizon setup installs.

I did mine with the stock 2GB SD card and it wasn't empty when I did it and it worked fine. I think they want to make sure you have room for the backup, which you will.

Mine did that the first time also, so I un-installed all the drivers and re-downloeded the SDK drivers from the link provided in this post. The second time I did that it worked flawlessly. So I got a bad download the first time.

Other then that, someone with more rooting experience then I have will have to help you.

when you say the sdk drivers you mean the android usb drivers?

I downloaded them and installed them from the link in this post marked, Preparation - Windows:

I'm new to all of this, so I actually got stuck and this didn't work at first. I just got the new phone today (Incredible). My problem was this, after messing around for 45 min, you need to install the HTC Synch first...then uninstall it, then follow the instructions on the HBOOT drivers. Thats what did it for me....HTC Synch must put something on your PC that this needs in order to run. Anyone stuck, try this first. Heres a link to HTC Synch.

Sorry for the late noob questions but I've rooted and confirmed it by finding the Superuser Permissions app tray (though it's not blank because I tried using the Titanium Backup app to no avail because it says I don't have root permission, but I digress) and finding S-OFF at the top of my HBOOT screen.

the only problem is that I have NEVER seen the clockWorkMod recovery screen after selecting "Recovery" in HBOOT. When I select "Recovery", I get stuck with an all-black screen with thin white margins along the left and right sides. I thought the fix to this was going through the DougPiston PB31IMG.zip route but that fails too because HBOOT doesn't automatically ask to update "recovery".

Any help? Pretty please? :confused:

I would re-download the unrevoked app and anything else that you downloaded as per the instructions, I really think you got a corrupt file.

I've followed these instructions along with the instructions on "Universal Windows USB Drivers (ADB, BootLoader, Disk Drive, HTC Sync)" to a T and am still having problems. My phone does show "Android Bootloader Interface" in device manager both when HBOOT is running and when running normally. I've deleted and re-downloaded the 2 files to make sure I had valid downloads. I've tried this on my Windows 7 laptop and XP desktop. I've tried without HTC sync installed. Then I installed and uninstalled it and tried again. I have an 8gb card installed with over 6gb free. Unrevoked never gets passed "Waiting for root". I've noticed that once it gets to that step Android no longer shows up in the Device Manager. I've waited 45 mins for a change and nothing, ever. I am running FroYo and 2 days ago I did have a VZW OTA update pushed to my phone.

Any insight?

The unrevoked method has been broken since the November OTA update.
 
Ugh, Same thing for me. I have been waiting for someone to confirm that they broke unrevoked 3.21. Being a newbie, is there a way to "roll back" the OTA so 3.21 would work? Is the unrevoked guys looking into this?

I wonder if using hboot to flash the pb31img.zip file then using unrevoked 3.21 would work? I'm sure I would lose all my info doing it that way, but I was going to wipe and flash a different rom anyway.

Any thoughts?

Also, how do you tell which screen you have? I got a replacement dinc for my eris from verizon so I don't have an original box to check.

Yes, this is what has tripped up so many people. The old wives' tales are rampant all over the place. The driver issue was the "stimulus" that caused me to write that driver article I did a while back.
