Help! When I go to step 4 it doesn't go into the skating android screen! Is it necessary to do step 4 to load custom ROMs? Please help me.
 
yes it is. i suggest just keep on reading through the massive XDA thread to for hints and advice while continuing to try. It took me 6 hours to get it working. Be persistent and you will get it.

BTW browse the xda thread on ANOTHER computer. Don't touch your computer while its doing its thing because that will mess up the send commands.
 
ok after hours of fighting that same issue here is what you do

1 dont turn off the 1st screen when it goes red and says hit ok to continue ignore it and go to next steps.

2 or sence you have tried it a couple of times skip step one altogether and just do steps 2-4 try that and get back to us that seems to fix it for everyone
 
something that helped me (possibly) was after a fail, i deleted the pushed files from step 1 off my sd card and let it do it again.

but the process with what will work seems to be different for just about every EVO, its really odd.
