Help Since 2.2 Apps auto opening

bjs1978

Newbie
Hi. Just like everyone, I just recently updated to froyo and it seems that since then I have SO many of my apps that are opening all on their own. I have had this happening on 2.1 as well but not this bad. It is horrible now. I use Advanced App Killer and with 2.1 I used to run that just before going to bed and kill everything. Now that I have 2.2 I do the same thing but during the night I am getting woken by notifications from my email along with other apps that have notifications. I then open advanced app killer to see a thousand apps that are running. IS there something else that I can do to prevent this from happening? It is rather annoying. Thanks everyone!

FAQ: Why You Shouldn’t Be Using a Task Killer with Android

If you dont want the applications waking you up with notifications then you should just turn off auto syncing while you sleep. Believe it or not task killers are not suggested and are frowned upon. You could also turn off notifications? If you have a program that has notifications turned on then it is always going to be running.

Boy it seems as if this topic is EXTREMELY controversial and nobody seems to know if task killers are useful or not. So therefore I don't know what I should do. Either way it doesnt matter. The point is that prior to froyo, once I killed apps they were off until I turned them back on. After froyo - I turn them off and they turn back on.

As far as using one goes, do what you want, but the Android OS manages tasks on it's own and as you said it will just turn them back on (and off) as it needs them anyway.

I use a task killer and see no difference in phone speed, but do get better battery life, if I had a newer phone than a G1 with better batter life to start with I probably wouldn't bother with one.

as far as apps self starting, Google Maps is the only one I have that self starts and it did it before I started using a task killer.
