After the update I went to add a few things to my phone and plugged USB as always. Pre-update would see o the notification bar a usb icon and after tapping it would ask me to mount. Now, there is no usb icon and my phone does not show up on the desktop!! WTF!!:mad: Help Please!!

try taking it out and putting it back in
if that doesnt work try rebooting phone
then if that doesnt work try rebooting computer

Still not working!! I rebooted both and it is not recognizing my device. How can I undo the update?

reboot the phone while its plugged into the computer. That should make it work although its not a great solution.

I'm on the phone with VZW now. After some searching, Cathy came back and told me that it is a known issue and although it didn't have a correction time ETA, that they would fix it on the next release. I told her we waited months ofr this release and that was unacceptable. She's checking further now.

This is from the update post in this forum. Hope it works for you! :)

I had the problem with my computer recognizing. In USB Settings I changed from Mass Storage to Ask on connection. Then plugged in to computer and it seems to work now.

I'm still having the same problem with mine not recognizing in my car. And now trying to sync w/ computer. Can't get that to go through whether on mass storage, media, or ask on connection...

VZW transferred me to Samsung. Samsung then hung up on me. I'm calling them back.

Exact same thing happened to me. The Verizon rep told me she was unaware...nothing in the notes about problems. Transferred me to Samsung they hung up on me. Uggghhhhh!

Plug in the phone, note the computer recognizes it as a CD-ROM drive; after 40 seconds it changes to removable disk, mount the disk from the phone's status bar, and then you can transfer files.

Have done this with two Fascinates on two Windows 7 computers.

Had this problem with my XP machine at work. It seems to be a driver issue. Go to device manager and uninstall the old samsung USB driver. You'll notice it's the one with the yellow ! mark. After the old driver has been removed, plug in the phone and it should reinstall new drivers and recognize it as a CD-ROM drive as Anthony2816 stated. Problem solved

This worked for me after changing the USB method to mass storage. The bad part is you have to wait each time you connect it... but at least it works.

It's designed, uh, to give you time to reflect on whether you really want to transfer those files.

"It's not a bug; it's a feature..."

Tried this....no luck. My computer does not recognize my device.

For me, I changed USB settings to "Ask on connection". When I connect my phone, I select mass storage, wait 20 seconds and I can then mount the device. My only issue is now I can't unmount it. I left my PC running last night to sync music to my new 32gb sd card, when I went to unmount the device it wouldn't go, so I pulled the cable and the SD card corrupted.

F***

BTW, I did not install any drivers or anything.

 I have VERY little hope of this issue actually being fixed! I have made multiple calls and email chats to both parties and each is pointing the finger at the other. Each claims there is no "known problem". The last Verizon rep I spoke to actually suggested that I purchase an external SD card reader and remove the card from my phone to transfer files. I did get a credit on my Verizon account, though. I suggest everyone who is having this issue call Verizon and demand a credit...maybe then they'll acknowledge the problem.

I can attest to the the back and forth finger pointing going on between the two companies. I spent 2 hours with Tiers 1 & 2 at VZW and the was twice transferred to Samsung. The last VZ rep basically said there wasn't anything further that could be done. Samsung won't take any responsibility either. They say the update came from VZ and there is nothing they can or will do. I went to the local VZ store today and they confirmed the abnormal behavior and had the replacement Fed-Ex'd to me so I'll have it tomorrow. It's ridiculous that we have to even go through this.

Replacement?? As in new phone?
