Help Since the update my phone no longer mounts

Yep it does show up as that and yep I can't run the .exe file to install. But then like dawn said, even that disappears after a min or so. That's the point where I am able to mount but it then says not readable. So I get to look at my phone charging but not connecting :) whooptie do.

Same for me. This sucks. One of my favorite things is the changing of the screens so now I have to email files to get them on the phone. Don't know what to do about camera files. Get a card reader maybe but I don't want to have to take my phone apart to move files around.
 
Same problem here... on a Mac, and since the update, my phone no longer connects/mounts as a mass storage device.

Hmmm... Craigslist is calling. Not waiting another 3-4 months for a fix (when and if?)! Before I jump the gun, though, I DO hope that the guys as XDA can develop a fix. Please! =)
 
For those of you no longer able to transfer files by USB cable, consider putting Dropbox on both your computer and your phone. Unless you're copying a huge amount of data, I find Dropbox more convenient than bothering with USB.
 
OK....so just got off the phone with Verizon AGAIN. This guy seemed to be more knowledgeable than any of the rest that I've spoken to. I'm more interested in what he DIDN'T tell me than what he DID tell me.

He said that after doing some research, he found that this is a known issue. Something about the drivers not working with Mac. He said he was holding in his hand a Fascinate that was running "testing software" and that he hooked it up to a Mac and it works fine, so he knows that on the next update, it will be back working.

I asked him if he was running 2.2....or just an update to 2.1 and he got this nervous laugh. When I pressed him, and said "So is it 2.2???" he kinda said "yeah". He said that I should pay close attention to the forums because they seem to be on target.

Of course, I take that all with a grain of salt....but he seemed like a pretty good guy. He said he could walk me through all the BS trouble shooting crap they are told to do, but he already knows it won't work....so if I wanted to, we could, but he didn't see the point in it.

So that's where I'm at right now.....no fix until the next update. He suggested alternatives that we've already discussed in here....guess we'll all be playing the waiting game.
 
So for us Mac users, until the 2.2 update, we have to take out the MicroSD card, stick it in a MicroSD-to-SD adapter, then stick that into the SD card slot of our Macs?

Man, I'm glad I haven't gotten the update yet.

Interesting it can mount it but not read it 'cause it has to read it to determine the file system type so it can mount it. I wonder if it's a write-only device now? :) This whole issue is so lame and never should have happened. I'm not a MAC user but it's just unix underneath. Most modern unix's support a "remount" option in the mount command. Maybe you could try remounting the device with R+W, or something to that affect. If you unmount it and then mount it the stupid Verizon software on the phone may notice and present the CD-ROM again. Just a thought....

Also, I would think the folks that hack the phone software should be able to get rid of this annoyance. You'd probably have to root the phone if they did.

I'd start asking for "rebates" till they got it fixed. If I wasn't so new on my contract I'd give serious thought to dumping Verizon just on general principle. :) Crap like this annoys the hell out of me.

Same issues here and I am pissed. I am stock, unrooted and have never needed any drivers. I just hooked up the effing phone to either my Mac or Windows PC and I chose "Mount" with NEVER a problem. Now I can't connect :mad:
 
I lucked into getting it to work. I set it "ask on connection", waiting, setting it to mount, waiting some more, and eventually it showed up and it mounted. I doubt it will work again.

This is the last gorram POS Samsung I'll ever buy from Verizon. I'm getting an iPhone when I can and screw this crap. I had one before switching to Verizon and I never had the headaches I've had with this.

I am beginning to sour a bit too. Not yet sure who to blame VZW or Samsung. I love the iphone too as well as Android OS

Wifey (who can't keep her $35 flip phone charged or leaves it on the counter top 80% of the time) wants me to get her an iphone :eek:- can you believe that.

I am having this issue using the USB that came with the phone. I have never used anything but! They've got us by the cajones!

It's a Verizon thing. The software they want you to install from the CD-ROM device is for some new Verizon media syncing service. Beside asking to install the software when the phone is plugged in, they also fire up your browser with a link describing the new service - not a free service....

And the cable has nothing to do with it.

ok what if you rooted after the dl09 came out? do you need to go back and unroot back to pre-dl09 stock image? then reroot to another rom?

Why didn't you unmount the card through your computer...
 
this fix worked for me:

Only mounting problem in XP was the device showing up as a CD-ROM. That was fixed by unplugging phone, setting usb debugging on, turn off phone, plug phone into computer, and turn device back on.
 
Windoze users: Read this in Androidcentral and may help those that don't get software install prompt when phone is CD-ROM. When connecting the phone, have explorer open and when phone shows up as CD-ROM, right-click on the device entry and click "eject".

This same type of thing may work on the MAC if somehow they expose the device.

Look in About This Mac / More Info / System Profiler / USB and see the node point of your phone’s SD Card. Mine is /dev/disk1

Have a terminal window open with the following command ready to execute:

gpt show /dev/disk1Connect the Phone

In the Notifications screen, repeatedly, about five times do:
1. USB Connection -> MOUNT
2. Turn Off USB Storage -> TURN OFF
Repeat x 5 quickly

At some point when the Mac is confused as to what the hey is going on (after about the fifth time of mounting and un-mounting the card, Mount it ONE MORE TIME and immediately EXECUTE the command in the terminal window.

You should see your Memory card appear with Read/Write access.I do not understand why this works, but it does. Something about probing the USB Interface.

Any one of you Mac pros want to tell me what is going on here and why this works? So far this is the ONLY method that I have been able to reproduce OVER and OVER again successfully.

This has made me SO mad.Thanks,

Holy crap! I think I'll just wait for the update. Meantime...I went to Office Depot and got an SD card reader for $8.99. With the $25 credit I got from VZW for them being so douchey, I'm up $16.01! :)

P.S. - Just plugged in my new sd card reader and it shows up on my desktop exactly like it did pre-update. Since the card is hot-swapable I don't even have to turn off my phone. Yes, it's one more step, no, it's not as convenient but hey it works!
 
@jbirdsf - It's not that hard just looks like it. After experimenting a little more, repeating three times and probing on the fourth mount worked fine. Repeating five times is a little overkill.

@IIKings9:20 - Four days of frustration.

gpt is just a guid partition tool. gpt show just forces the OS at that *specific* point in time to try and grab the partition table info off the disk.

The gpt call fails. But the point is that the Mount/Unmount activity gives the phone just enough moment of confusion to release its hold on the disk and the OS kicks in and mounts the device.

Also FYI, in case any of you are wondering, this was done on a non-root, non-modified out of the box fresh phone, the same day the update came out. OTA Pushed the update to my phone at the sales counter.

I'm a mac user and I just decided to bluetooth my files to the phone and vice versa. :) depending how big and how many files you send, this might not be the best option, but for me it works.

Dan, can you tell if the device (phone) first shows up as a CD-ROM? If so, maybe there's a command to eject the "CD". This should cause the phone to switch to a mass storage device. I think what you are doing is causing the same thing to happen, just in a less precise manner. Or the VZW software is timing out and you are keeping the Mac software involved until the the "disk" finally shows up whereas the Mac software would give up otherwise.

@ larry: The CD does come on, but the selection on the phone to start the USB mounting doesn't appear until the CD ejects itself automatically after 15 seconds. And the message "The Disk You Inserted was not readable by this computer. Initialize, Ignore, Eject" Obviously this is the computer trying to read the disk.

I was able to pull the partition table of this disk one time. It actually showed three sectors, 1. a one byte MBR, 2. The main memory, and 3. Some smaller unknown chunk.

This card was formatted in the phone, which is the only way the phone will read it. The phone was also able to read a card that was formatted inside a Blackberry Curve.

@UncreativeUsername I tried bluetoothing my files, but upon the attempted connection to Browse files using Bluetooth File Exchange I received the message: This device lacks the proper profiles to support this activity.
