Siyah Gingerbread kernel (v2.x)

Siyah kernel 2.6.7 is up!! :D

Download here:-

SiyahKernel for SGS2 | "One kernel to rule them all"

Don't forget to disable your previous voltage settings and to do a kernel wipe before installing.

Changelog:

lots of cpu governor changes
changed default governor to ondemand with sampling rate of 100000. use setcpu or scripts to lower it (or try conservative governor) if you prefer performance over battery life.
fixed usb related (OTG, mass storage etc) problems which were introduced in v2.6.6i

2.6.7 now up and downloading to my phone as we speak. I'm blaming hawker if this ones no good ;)

Beat me to it Syd! I suppose blaming hawker will shift the curse from you.

I want to thank especially to hawkerpaul for his patience in testing and helping me to find out the problem.

Lets see if I can break this one. ondemand+sio. 100->800Mhz. Heavy u/v. No other scripts or app's.

I found my test version disappointing with regards to over battery drain, losing 1% per hour approx, compared to my usual 0.5%.

I've updated to the official 2.6.7 release now so I'll see how this fares.
Seems just as silky smooth with no noticeable lagging, so its a good start!
:)

Must...flash!! I always check Gokhan's site before coing here. Getting closer to announcing it for the first time...slowly! :D

Yup, Siyah 2.6.7 is doing really well for me. Seems to have great battery life and performance, good balance. I may stick with this for awhile as I'm getting tired of flashing something new everyday and then putting my phone in a test mode while I measure all the performance aspects. It's time I start using the phone as the communication device I bought it for!!

Wow looks like my phone going nuts the other day was a blessing in disguise :)

with the latest Siyah/Modem and with the Voltage App( thnx too Ironass)

10% drop in 4 hrs a few calls, browsing with background syncing with Facebook, Phandroid and emails

Kernel wipe?

Well, I'm a, "Happy Bunny", with Siyah 2.6.7! :)

It is soooo smooth. Has accepted the heaviest U/V I've ever done. 100->800Mhz. ondemand + sio. No scripts, Profiles or other app's used. Managed 28 hours of, "my usage". This compares with around 24 hours a month ago and 16-18 hours before that. See here:-

Obviously I would need a week on this kernel to give a definitive battery life but as I've often mentioned on here, that with my usage, I'd be happy to get 24-27 hours on a charge. :D

Running 2.6.1 has anyone encountered anything such as receiving multiple messages from people of the same Message? Happening a lot recently and the phone is locking up on pages at time. Gonna try 2.6.7 to see if anything changes.

2.6.7 here now and after a fresh kernal clean and install everything seems so far so good. Very odd happenings :) . I have since relinquished the services of Antutu to handle my OC/UC profiles. Im half tempted to blame that for the oddities. Back to good ol SetCPU.

Another thing that works now is the USB detection without having to use USB debugging mode. huzzah.

From day one I have never gotten the battery life using Siyah that others on this forum have. This weekend I did a factory reset wipe on my phone. Took it back to the beginning. I reflashed 2.36 KK5, installed CheckROM, Siyah 2.6.7 and LP1 Baseband. I now believe I am getting the same battery everyone else is. Each morning I walk to work and listen to the radio on my phone while I do this. My walk to work would burn 5% battery just running the radio. Today I got up, read a couple of emails, read some news on the internet and walked to work. I looked at my phone when I got here and it said 100% still! Awesome!!!

Not sure what was causing the issues but doing a complete wipe was the best thing I did!!

I had a funny battery drain issue yesterday. I was running 2.6.2 and had been usually getting over 30 hours with around 15% left.

Then for some unknown reason my battery was draining in about 8/9 hours. I recalibrated my battery (charge to 100% then remove battery for a minute & reinsert) this seemed to do the trick, but not sure why this would happen.

One thing I did notice was that both the Android OS & Android system had used about 20% battery. I was pretty sure that the Android system used to use a lot less (~5%).

Anyway, I've decided to join the ranks on 2.6.7 and will see how it goes.

I don't want to burst your balloon Sword Fish but it could just be that your battery fuel gauge hasn't re-calibrated itself properly yet and will need a few cycles to report accurately as clearing battery stats or Battery calibration app's don't really work with the SGSII.

I had that issue, but I thought it was a problem with Chomp SMS. I ended up having to restore to a previous backup. This was all on .6, I flashed to. 7 yesterday and I've yet to have the problem again.

So I have made a very interesting discovery around the above comments.

When I did a complete wipe, I was at home and connected to my home wireless. What I was not aware of was that the wipe also wiped out my APN configuration, therefore, no 3G data was being transmitted. This wasn't evident until I left my home and got to work.

After recreating the APN, I was shocked at how much data was being sent and how quickly the battery was draining (9% /hour). What I discovered is I have 3 Exchange email accounts, a GMail account, Facebook, Microsoft Lync and LinkedIn all performing different levels of syncing. I had everything set to PUSH which meant it was constantly looking for data. I made a lot of changes to how all these accounts sync and now the battery and data has calmed down to an acceptable level.

Just thought I would share with everyone what can be a bigger drain on the battery than the kernel itself!
