Siyah Gingerbread kernel (v2.x)

damn you all who have siyah working well. damn you all for being able to play around with governers. damn you all and your fancy dual core functionality. damn damn damn. siyah is the devils kernel.

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

beta6 = lag lag lag, just like the others

but hey, I'm taking it in my stride........

I'm curious as to why its only affecting you butty as mine is slicker than a greased ferret on whizz.

what rom/firmware are you on?
what launcher are you using?
how many homescreens do you have?
how many widgets are on these in total?
does lagging occur on homescreen scrolling, app drawer or both?
what are your setcpu setting?
how much used space do you have on your internal/sd cards?
does lagging ALWAYS occur? (or are you just testing on boot when media scanning still taking place)
what colour socks are you wearing?

posted my SLIGHT!!! lag issue on XDA - there are others out there with the same. so it's not just me.

  • using bog standard touchwiz
  • 2 homescreens
  • 2 widgets and 8 app icons on each page - nothing too busy or fancy
  • lag used to be on homescreen, app drawer, browsing, menus...absolutely everything. with beta 5/6 is now just on scolling sideways the homescreen, and also on loading some apps - they stutter accross the screen. most annoying is the homescreen, it just stutters from side to side
  • tried switching off setcpu, and tried every governer on the list. tried overclocking. otherwise not fiddled with the settings
  • plain black - defo no homer simpson socks here

Have you tired changing your socks? :)

It may be worth trying a different launcher to see if that fixes the lag on the homescreen. If your want to start with touchwiz there's always the updated version on the kitchen. Can't really hurt if changing your socks doesn't make a difference.

good suggestion. suffering a severe case of kernel fatigue right now, but will give this a go over the next day or 2.

sorry for banging on about this, you've all been very patient. and helpful. especially the socks bit.

No lag noticed with ADW Launcher EX on DlevROM 3.1. Tbh I'd be really surprised if TW was the issue, seeing as it's the stock launcher and therefore probably the one most tested.

Try wiping cache and dalvik-cache from recovery, then reflash the kernel. May not make a difference, but it sure won't do any harm.

Simsung :D

I think all Sydney needs to do is start from scratch doing a factory wipe/cache than install a good ROM like CR2, Criskelo, Dlev etc maybe install all the apps one by one in case they are causing the lag.

did a full wipe (ie incl factory reset) before installing checkrom revolution

everything perfectly smooth and dandy with speedmod kernel, stock kernel, hellcats kernel, lulz kernel....... so not sure what ur suggesting will really get me anywhere. but thanks for trying!

just frustrated that siyah doesn't seem to work for me when it seems so mighty fine for everyone else.

i'll shut up now coz this probably got boring for everyone else about 100 posts ago!!!

That's life. I've has similar on other devices; sometimes you just have to say "meh" and move on. Any worthwhile improvement from one kernel will soon filter through to others anyway, so you rarely miss out completely in a case like this.

Has anyone tried using just single core mode for the day or so? i set it the other day but when i checked it, it had reverted to back to dynamic mode...

Been using single core mode today, all other settings are the same using siyah v2.2 beta6, usign the phone the same as i normally would and my battery seems to be draining quicker....

v2.2 beta7

Changelog:

added Cyanogenmod native led notifications (thanks to DvTonder). You may need to install CM7 again as my previous kernels were copying liblights over the original one. From this version on it will be copied only on samsung roms.
reverted back to TREE_RCU
