Siyah Gingerbread kernel (v2.x)

And interestingly, 2.6.13 will be the last ever GB version.

Can someone enlighten me on the new VC with this? How is it installed, what extra does it give etc. I've not been keeping up to date with Siyah for a long while since I converted over to the NEAK side.
Will the new VC ONLY work on this latest Siyah?

I don't think it's quite finished yet but when it is it will be releases on the market. Not sure if it's going to be an update to the existing vc or if it's going to be a separate app. I think it will be open for all kernels to use but I'm not sure if they are compatible with the advanced features at the moment.

Did that actually help? I've just seemed to throw in some more questions instead of really answering.

My understanding of this is that the features of the new vc will be made available to other devs to allow it to work with their kernels if they choose. But since the neak team are developing their own app they are not going to do this.

As mentioned elsewhere, it's not going to be a replacement for VC. It will be a free app that provides a user-friendly means to alter the kernel config file, effectively replacing at least some of what currently has to be done via init.d scripting.

I've had a quick look at the default.profile file for .13 and the following are available for adjustment:

Governor, scheduler, second-core state and threshold settings, GPU voltages, frequencies and threshold settings, display brightness settings, touchscreen sensitivity, deepsleep_buslevel and _cpulevel, smooth_offset, _step and _target, CPU power-saving mode settings, and logging on/off.

Any custom frequency and voltage tables required will still have to be set via VC or boot script.

I'm not sure if I have a wierd phone but I can't seem to change voltages at all. I lowered just the 100mhz voltage to 900mV from 950 and within an hour had a SOD. This has been an issue from day one for me. Very finicky phone!

First impressions are good. As smooth as neak and lulzactive works perfectly, could never get that to play nicely with neak. It's going to be a case of who has the best battery wins, again.

Battery seems (enter explicit word) impressive. I won't really get a proper comparison between the latest neak and siyah until I get back to work Monday as that's my average use and I didn't have the new neak on my phone on a Friday night. But last Friday running neak 1.3.3 I had to put my spare battery in a couple of hours ago. Only just changed it tonight.

Just a quick, "heads-up", for anyone who downloaded the Siyah kernel 2.6.13 yesterday... gokhanmoral has made some changes to it since its release. These are mainly to do with the forthcoming app and nandroid back-up/restore. The kernel still retains the release number 2.6.13, (13 being gok's lucky number), and can be re-downloaded here:-

Thnx installing it now been busy getting house ready for sale plus playing with my new Samsung Tab :D

Looks like gokhanmoral has made some more changes to Siyah 2.6.13 as well as withdrawing the CWM versions.

Unless I've missed something in mobile Odin, this decision might make it a bit tricky to wipe cache areas before flashing the kernel. Wiper scripts delete certain kernel files. Flashing via Mobile odin will mean the kernel cleaner scripts/wipe cache will have to occur after the kernel has been flashed before its first run. Hopefully Siyah auto-creates any of its missing temporary files on boot.

I was on the v2 of .13 overnight and battery drain was a disappointing 13% over 9 hours. Doubt if v3 of .13 will make too much difference so I'm back on neak now.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. :(

WTF!

Knowing your normal battery drain is around 0.5% an hour, that's nearly 3 times as much!

Having just posted my review of NEAK v1.4, see here:-

http://androidforums.com/4027839-post269.html

I was about to consider installing Siyah. Think I might do a swerve on it for the time being though. ;)

Where can I download 2.6.12 or 2.6.13? At the Siyah site.....it say to go to xda, but when I click the link, I don't see where it is.

The ExTweaks app from Xan is now available in Android Market, for use with Siyah 2.6.13 #96.

You will need to ensure that you are running the latest version of Siyah 2.6.13 kernel with this app. This can only be installed as a .tar file using Odin3 v1.85 or Mobile Odin as gokhanmoral is no longer supporting CWM .zip files.

Odin3 v1.85 PC download:-

[16.02.2012][CF-Root 5.2] K/EFGHIJKL*, KP1/2/4/8/A, LA2/4, LP1/2/6/B/H -su+bb+CWM4/5 - xda-developers

Mobile Odin Lite v2.15, free, download:-

[09.02.2012] Mobile ODIN v2.15 [ROOT] - xda-developers

There is also a paid version of Mobile Odin, Mobile Odin Pro, available from the Market:-

UPDATE

An updated CWM .zip version is now available!

Gokan posted yesterday that he's now added a cwm zip to his blog, and there is now a zip version on this site. Is this still the latest version ironass.

I have had a quick flash this am, and afterwards loaded the new siyah and app on my phone ;). It's quite overwhelming how many settings there are and for thicky like me its impossible to know where to start!

Its different to the tar version I downloaded previously as the zImage in the latest zip is dated 5th March @ 8:51am

Yes mate, the ones on Gok's site are identical, but he seems to have updated .13 again as of 8:30 this morning, so if you downloaded a version before this time, it will be "old"

Yeah I agree. I haven't done too much with the app yet as I'll have to do a bit of reading up before I start playing with most of the settings.

All I've done at the moment is lower GPU Freq step 2 and lower GPU Threshold 2-up to get the three step gpu working.

If you are using a voltage control init.d script for u/v you will need to edit that with root explorer. You will need to remove all the gpu settings from the script as these will replace the settings from the app.

B*gger me!

I checked at about 8.30 am this morning and there wasn't a .zip file to be seen... only the .tars on xda, (which have now been removed).

Not so much a kernel... more a game of Hide-and-Seek. :D

For latest download, (at the moment):-

SiyahKernel for SGS2 | "One kernel to rule them all"

I think I might wait for the dust to settle before installing Siyah 2.6.13 version #1046. ;)

Should be another new release out for Siyah 2.6.13 soon! :D

oh sorry. now I understand.
the device doesn't stay turned off when plugged?
ok. droidphile is right. it is related with lulzactive reverts.
I will fix it and upload new version for those who want their device turned off while plugged-in and charging.

All credit to gokhanmoral for his time, effort and commitment to the Siyah kernel.

Truly, a prince among men!

EDIT

New(er) update, #122, is now available for download!
