Siyah kernel - Dummies Guide

Oh right. Ok so one little problem. Sorry to be a nuisance. But ive rooted now,but whenever i try to download TB,it says insufficient storage. Even though i have heaps

EDIT: Fixed issue by downloading Lucky patcher, which deleted an odex file.

When updating to new version, do the ex tweaks settings stay on phone or do we need to input them again

Edit. Has this release been withdrawn, link not working

The 'Warning: only tested on stock 4.0.3 ROM.' - does this refer to the kernel bug? Or would I be safe to flash this anyway?

No its not withdrawn Syd. If it was, Gok would take the link down at source. Probably a temporary server error. The usual CWM/Odin links are now up on the Siyah page.

You can be safe in the knowledge that Siyah will not have the kernel bug. To say that its only tested on 4.0.3 basically means it will still have the problems associated with 4.0.4 ie. Video, camera and bluetooth, because as far as I know, 4.0.4 kernel sources have still to be released (or at least if they have, the problems have still not been fixed)

can confirm that the new version is fully working on AOKP 4.0.4 rootbox rom

although i take no responsibilty blah blah blah

Siyah has always worked on AOKP/CM9/AOSP 4.0.4
Sammy 4.0.4 ROMs are another matter, having bluetooth, camera and video issues

I know mate, but that 4.0.3 comment was put up on the Siyah site beacuse it's still not 100% compatible with stock 4.0.4 as Samsung have not released the kernel sources as far as I know (or at least if they have, the issues have not been sorted), and this is quite different to AOKP 4.0.4. All Siyah versions are 100% ok with AOKP 4.0.4

Siyah kernel v3.4.1 is now up! :D

"Changelog:

based on i9100 update6 sources
fixed /vendor symlink for cm9/aosp roms
Linux 3.0.37
Update 3.4 -> 3.4.1: bluetooth fix to work on 4.0.4 based ROMs (by tungstwenty)
"

IMPORTANT!

I have renamed the thread to include, "A Dummies Guide" in the title and have completely re-written post #1 to feature a beginners, step-by-step guide, with video, on installing the Siyah ICS kernel.

Bizzarely enough I'm getting much better battery life from the 'performance' profile on 3.4 than the 'default' or 'battery' profiles. On Rootbox 1.6.

Any suggestions as to why this is the case?

hi,
dont know much about the brickbug. so just a short q. please advise. i am using RR 2.6.1 with the latest siyah kernel. does that mean i dont have to worry at all, about the BRICKBUG, if i flash the latest LPO firmware over the current RR rom?? (coz i think i saw somewhere that the siyah kernels are safe of the brickbug)
thank you

Does the RR rom come with a Siyah kernel? When you flash a new ROM there is a kernel bundled with it. Some come with Siyah & some come with other kernels.

Only one teensy flaw in that cunning plan 1981... when you flash the stock LPO firmware over RR it will replace the Siyah kernel you currently have with the stock LPO, brick bug, kernel unless you follow the instructions here, theoretically, as I have not attempted this myself... and nor do I want to! :ahhhhh:

Siyah s2 v3.5

Change log: added jelly bean support

Change log only posted on his website, so kernel imminent.

That's gonna get a few on here excited today B-)

JB support?
I wonder if this means all the 4.0.4 bugs are now ironed out.
BT was already fixed by Tungstwenty which was in 3.4.1, but camera/video had to have a patch by Tungstwenty applied, so perhaps Gok has incorporated this fix into 3.5?

Guess I'll have to dredge through the xda thread again!....

Every time I see the word, "imminent", I just know that it won't be!

My favourite use of, "imminent" is here on March, 30th, 2012...

... followed, some 3.5 months later on July, 15th, 2012, by this.

I just knew before I checked the link that it would relate to Checkrom v7, but I had to click to be sure :D
