Skype Latest for Evo

While waiting for Skype why don't you try Movicha. It has video chat, text and voice chat. Works on desktops, and connects mobile to mobile, mobile to webcam equipped desktop, and any other type phones with video chat capability; i.e. iPhone, Android, Symbian based phones.

The video worked fairly well in my tests (can be choppy depending on connection) with the wife from my Evo to her desktop over 3G. She will be getting the Epic tomorrow so I can't wait to give it spin.

I believe the Qik app performs Video Chat for free. I opened a free account from qik.com, but I haven't tried the app on my phone yet.

If it doesn't work the first time for you try this

Go into settings of Skype and check if you have got at the bottom extra options:
Receive video calls
Show my video to
Video quality
If you dont see this options - dont worry.
Step 1. Delete previous version of Skype
Step 2. Install New (from this topic)
Step 3. Check settings again for extra video options
Step4.- probably your problems are solved by now. Good luck!

Incoming video works but the camers(front and rear) dont work with cyanogens latest. Video quality is good though

Skype has a partnership with verizon and apple so they have it right now eexclusively . But its suppose to hit the evo sometime this year.

Skype has a new version out and I find it to work perfectly (limited use though because of time constraints). You have to remove the current Skype and download the new version directly from their site.

Papanohair, can you share the link for downloading? The only thing i find is the version in the Android market. Skype website will direct you there if you want to download for Android

The link that I provided works good for me and video works A LOT better than tango or oovoo

It works somewhat on my EVO. Occasionally it will make the phone start vibrating and I don't always know how to stop it. Also the sound on the far end of the call is harsh and contains echo. There's no video rotation with the phone, but I assume that's how it's intended to operate.

The rear camera doesn't work but it acts as if it ought to. Does anyone have a working rear camera on their EVO with this patched Skype?

Even knowing it's not designed for the EVO hardware, and with these caveats, it's great to finally have some sort of useful video chat software that will communicate with my son's iPod Touch.

So o have the .47 version I just downloaded and haven't fully checked it yet but when i video call the and hold it vertically the camera goes upside down... I can go widescreen righ t side up but vertically and upside down it flips the image upside down... Only in this program does that happen... Suggestions?

Version 0.47? (did you mean 0.46? the latest one on the market is 2.1.0.46 - this is the one that officially enabled video calling for us EVO users)

I believe the .47 subrevision is referring to the 2.0 revision that was modified to allow all known phones to use video.

The Market version you're referring to comes from the 2.1 revision where Skype capitulated when the development community showed the emperor had no clothes and claims made regarding videochat restrictions may not have been as accurate as was previously claimed by Skype.

Hope that clarifies! :)
