Skype Officially in the Market for the HTC EVO 4G

I wasn't charged doing this from Europe to the States today. Just had someone at a computer and I was on WiFi at a pub.

Are you in the US? Are you connected via WiFi?
so you called someone via skype to skype .. but you on your phone and the other on the computer ...? im wondering if you can call from your phone over wifi to a cell phone or landline in the us ?
yes. i have since uninstalled the app as its not ready for my needs yet.

I just got back from a trip to Peru where I did just that, not on the EVO though. I used the Skype application on my friend's iPhone 3G. I bought a subscription from Skype to call the US. I connected the iPhone the internet via WiFi, then used the Skype app to call my friends' and family's cell phones in the US. All I paid was for the Skype subscription which was the cheapest option, $7 for a month of unlimited calls/minutes to mobile or landline in the US, cancel anytime. Any WiFi will do, I was calling from hotels, friend's houses, cafes, everywhere; it was pretty awesome.
I imagine the EVO skype app should work the same.

Even with the WiFi limitation and lack of video it sure would be handy for me. My wife's a flight attendant and occasionally flies to Japan and the only way we can communicate is with Skype. But it's a pain to make arrangements (before she takes off) as to when I should be in front of a computer that has Skype on it. Now I'll just have to be around a hotspot (local bar).

I couldn't care less about video chat right now, but if they ever get this damn thing to where I can even log in, this means I won't need my iPod Touch when I go to Europe to make (and possibly get) phone calls.

Are you trying to log in while connected via WiFi? This Skype press release (near the bottom in faded gray letters)...

says, that in the US, it's WiFi only. No 3G.

I've tried it both ways; also my Moment is disconnected from the Sprint Network and is WiFi-only.
Even if I put it a bogus password it comes right back which implies it's not related to logging in at all.

I currently have no WiFi connection and am able to login without any problems. Can't make any calls, but I am logged in and see my info and all that.

Not working for me at all. I even went into airplane mode with WiFi only on and it's failing to log in. Judging by the speed which it gives me the login error it might not even be establishing a connection to their login servers. I'm going to leave the app alone for now and try again later when they've actually fixed it.

You had the beer before testing out your own application idiots - published a widely used application without it being functional at all. Nice job skype maybe you didnt have a beer you were high in the process?

I use skype on my netbook all the time. ANd I rarely use the video feature. I travel all the time(in Rio now) and it is good to be able to call back home. Anyway, seems like a lot of you folks are just looking for a toy. This IS a useful app even if it does not have video chat. Calling internationally for 2 cents a minute makes it a very useful tool!
