Skype works!

I've read some older posts on other forums here and was just wondering if anyone knew if this was coming to us any time soon.

Any workaround?

I understand the video functionality is coming to the Tbolt soon. I would assume that means it'd be coming for other, newer, HTC devices also. I guess we'll see =)

Well, my Girlfriend has the Thunderbolt and she video called me from it to my desktop before I got the 3VO. She was using wifi I believe...

Yeah, hopefully soon.

OK, cool beans!

But - I do hate that GoodAndEvo.com has a tendency to grab files without proper citation. And you can see on their web page that some people are getting that working, others not, so I'm providing some alternative stories on what's up here.

XDA Gets Skype 2.0 With Video Working On More Androids In Less Than A Day Android Phones, Android Tablets, News, Tech, Gadgets And More, Thedroidguy

Skype Already Hacked for Video on Additional Androids

Skype 2 Available For Other Devices! | xda-developers

GoodAndEvo.com rips off a mod at XDA and calls it good.

Phandroid went right to the source - Hacked Skype 2.0 Comes With Even More Device Compatibility – Download Here

Note: Uninstall any previous Skype before attempting this install.

I grabbed the one from VillianROM - rev 2.0.0.45, signed, same as Market version - works great!

Thanks, RadMarv! :) :)

hi all,

I uninstalled old skype, installed the SkypeThunderbolt.apk and it installed no problem

but when I make a call the video doesn't work. I press the video button and it goes to video mode for 1 second (stays black) then reverts to audio only

This happens whether I make the call from the phone or the computer

@Rad and @EarlyMon, what did you guys do to make it work?

EDIT: Also tried skype_2_0_0_45-signed.apk (The one from villanROM's site) and it did the exact same thing

I must have edited too late, I added to my above post that I uninstalled SkypeThunderbolt and tried that one and had an identical issue.

Possibly worth noting is that I'm using the Linux version of skype on the PC (since I don't use windows), I doubt very seriously that's the problem but I guess it could be ...

EDIT: another interesting thing, if I make the call from my phone, my video pops up while it's ringing (I can see myself on the 3vo screen), but as soon as I answer on my laptop the video cuts off and turns to audio-only call

You're not trying to call yourself under the same account name are you?

I have a personal and a business account, so that's how my test worked.

Just searched for skype in the market, downloaded it... works fine... it also synced with my facebook automatically

it works on my phone but is constantly syncing when I'm running the skype application. Anyone else notice this?

but does the market app do video chat?

Yes, but only for a few phones.

Skype for Android 2.0 Now Available; Brings Video Calling to Select Devices, “Refined” UI

What pulser_g2 (XDA mod and dev) did was:

  1. decompile the existing Market app
  2. discover that there was a video/chat permissions table for lots of phones but only few implemented
  3. he changed that table
  4. said, hey gang - it works for my sgs2, give it a try yourselves!

That's what this rev is.

EM,

yes sir i know the app in the store is for certain handsets for video, however this cat above stated:

Just searched for skype in the market, downloaded it... works fine... it also synced with my facebook automatically

so i took that to mean he/she was able to get the app in the store to to video on the 3D.. hence why i asked..

I already have the modified version from phandroid.. :D

No I have two accounts as well, it just refuses to work no matter what I do, I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times ...

Did those who got it to work do the OTA? I did not, that's a possible issue I guess?

Anybody else have any ideas why I can't get video to work?
