Skype works!

cant get this to work. having the same problem as strat. when i call somebody i can see myself then when they pick up, the screen turns black and i can just hear them

Does the test audio call work for you?

If not, maybe a re-install can cure it?

yeah, test call works from it..

Weird thing, after I just rebooted, all my home screen customizations were gone, and, everything was reset to stock..
My programs are still installed, so I dont have a clue WFT just happened!

makes me wonder if these phones are still "beta"...

A major complaint I have is that I _cannot_ find a way to save the Scene (like we could before under 2.2/Froyo) with the new Sense. That was the way to simply to go back to the correct homescreen config. I _suspect_ that you first have to create a custom scene and then configure the whole thing - like, yeah, we'll all jumped in for that one.

Sounds like you've gotten something tangled on your phone. I've been through regular factory resets ensuring my setup - so - my config is cleaner.

Between that and the fact that, yes, this new release could use a stability update (like we got for the Evo on 6/28 last year, rev 1.47) - I think you're right.

If you have everything you can backed up to Google, in your shoes, I'd go for the factory reset. The Google backup saves a lot, but not the email settings, etc - as I've remembered and found yesterday.

PS, sorry for dumb question: you have done the OTA and the 4 HTC updates?

I did a factory reset yesterday, having too many sense fc's, and, weird thing where songs on my sd card would just start playing on their own, so, that got old pretty fast!
The phone has been perfect since the reset; and, I just tried Skype again after a reboot, and, it worked perfectly!

Yes, I have taken all the updates, and every thing else they asked me to take.
My feeling is that when the Dev's get this thing rooted, it wont matter what version you are on...

Even though I had to reset my home screens, its still alot less messing around with things, Versus the E4G; with root, you are constantly screwing around with new ROMS, Kernels, and programs...with a stock phone like this, there is only so much you can do...fortunately!

My fingers need a break after 12 straight months of EVO Modding..

Same problem here. Wonder why it is working for some and not others.

different phone envorinments.. what i have on my handset and how its set up may make a big enough difference compared to another user.

if one did not fully uninstall the old version of skype if they had it installed, that could be the issue..

just a lot of variables in place. it seems, though, that it does work as many have posted success. so i dont find it odd some have it working and others didnt... same with the green hornet fiasco.. some could get it to play fine.. some couldnt.. etc etc.. :)

I managed to make two successful calls to people in Canada on both phones but after a couple of minutes the picture froze but the voices were fine.

I have had the same thing.

Try going into settings and change video value from high to low.

H.263 using Skype on Fring worked great, better than this. That video change is my next test.

Edit - just set laptop / wifi in front of one TV, phone / 3G in front of another.

With video quality set to low, it's better. No video stuttering or freezes. Time lag and a few dropped frames, but that's normal Skype. Otherwise, the 1080i programs came thru smoothly. I think it was a good test.

for what it's worth I think the linux might be the issue (for me at least)

I called my gf's account and she's on windows and it worked fine

anyone having troubles using ubuntu?

Which issues, please? If freezing video, please see my edit above, I was seeing it on OS X; maybe a good idea to ask if others have the problem on Windows.

Oddly, I have found very often that band limiting, as happens when lower vid rates are specified, actually make the end result look like a higher bandwidth connection.

That and I took my Ubuntu node off my net last month, so I can't help otherwise at the moment.

I have a NEXUS S and it seems that skype 2.0 isn't providing video chat. I'm on Rogers in Canada. I wish video could work because I too run Ubuntu on my pc and could never get the audio working with pulse audio.

Sorry, the issues I posted about earlier (the one kodak and eric said they were having)

Video calls just don't work, when you make a video call the video pops up but then when they answer it turns into a voice call only and won't let you change to video.

It does this for me when I call my ubuntu machine, but not when I call my gf's windows machine (obviously there could be other factors at play, that's not certain to be the problem)

I was able to get video chat working with my wife. But I couldn't get rear facing camera to work at all. Then, when I toggle back to FFC, wife only sees black. To fix, I had to press the menu button and put the call on hold. Then unhold. wait a few seconds, and my outgoing video feed gets fixed.

Tried the same app (phandroid version) on the Evo 4G. Neither FFC or RFC worked for video calls. Running CM7.0.3.1.

I don't believe the rear-facing was intended to be supported.

Yahoo Instant Messenger recently broke their working videochat by making it only work for the rear-facing camera - you might try that or other apps for rear camera needs.

ive successfully used skype to make video calls to a friend in japan. this was a few months ago and using the cellular network to boot.
