Help Sleep app for incredible

hmmmm. So is "sleep" mode when your mobile network turns off? hence no longer getting push notifications?
So myself, who keeps Enable Always-on Mobile Data, would keep my phone from "sleeping" as you describe it. But as far as we know, the only setting actually impacted by "sleep" mode is the ability to receive push notifications. So Sleep is really Mobile Data turning off.

It would be easy enough to test other notifications (SMS, FB etc).

For my personal use, this test showed that I need to keep the "Enable Always-on Mobile Data" setting on to receive PUSH notifications when the phone enters the "sleep-type-mode".

As far as what the phone does during the "sleep-type-mode", all the test has shown is that it stops EMAIL push, but the phone will still ring.

Testing other 3g related function could be tested to narrow it down a bit more.

A non-scientific observation I made is that it takes a few seconds after awakening the phone from the "sleep-type-mode" for the mobile network to start working. (not noticeable when just turning the screen back on) This would seem to indicate that 3g may have been switched off, but could just be the sensors/indicators "catching up", so I would not draw a conclusion just from that observation.

Stop spreading BS :P

I have Mobile Data Always On, and my phone status is like 12 hours on, 2.5 hours awake.
The phone also DOES sleep while plugged in. Restart it, plug it in, and go to sleep. In the AM the two up times will be different, unless you have an app running that it causing it not to sleep.

Again, it may just be an issue of terminology.

What we have shown, today, is that the phone does not enter the "sleep-type-mode" when plugged in (or at least it does not within the same time frame as when not plugged in). It might be worth doing a longer test to see if it is just a delay, but I would be VERY surprised if that was the case.

Also, it does not enter this mode when unplugged if the "Enable Always-on Mobile Data" mode is enabled.

It does enter the "sleep type mode" when "Enable Always-on Mobile Data" mode is disabled and the phone is NOT plugged in.

Finally, unless some other app is interfering with the phone "sleeping", the difference between the Up time and Awake time is the time that the screen is off (and NOT the time spent in the "sleep-type-mode").

This must be different from "Cell Standby". My thought a moment ago was this Mobile Data off mode, or 3G turning itself off might be equivalent to Cell Standby, but my phone is in Standby quite often and I have Mobile Data set to always on.

So this leads me to wonder what Cell Standby is and how is different than Screen Off?

Good work nightfishing.

So, for practical purposes, IF you do not want to miss PUSH notifications while your phone is in this "sleep-type-mode" enable the "mobile data always on" setting.

Also, whatever this "sleep-type-mode" is, it is not activated completely with the phone plugged in.

I will try to clean this up and make a singular post about it at some point.

My next test will be to try to determine what happens AFTER a notification is received (if the phone is just left alone i.e. middle of the night).
right but i could have told you all this after about 4 days with the phone lol....

the stupid "always on data" was a "fix" for better battery life somebody told everyone to do. I discovered right away this was a bad thing to do actually even if it saved an hour or so of battery maybe. The OP never told anyone this so then all these threads about not getting notifications popped up and so then i had to start explaining to everyone why this was happening.

A little off topic but got a question....

coming from someone who has used the i910 on win mo with verizon for like 2 years now, and this being my first android phone when i get it... When the phone updates things like face book update and push email and stuff, does it have to do the dial up thing like on my omnia every time? and also once its done does it shut it's data connection off its self or am I going to have to find a program to manual close it every time again like on my omnia?

Reason I ask, is kinda to do with topic, when my omnia did the dial up thing to get email, and then it wouldn't disconnect itself, the battery was awful, but when i found a program to close it like after 2 mins timeout saved battery, is this a issue I will have on the Android system on the Inc?

Thanks

technically no, its always connected to the 3g network. no need to dial anything

Ok well I the sound of that better, cos my omnia, dialed #777 thing everything i did anything online, but then when i discoed, i had to d/c manually, which in the end i found a program to time out for me...

So im happy to hear that ty
