Root Slew of build prop tweaks!

So I've uninstalled ViperFX and I am still experiencing heavy battery drain. It didn't even get fully charged after 6 hours plugged in last night and I already have it on the charger now, plugged into USB which seems to be only keeping it from running down. It's not actually gaining anything. Also, the case feels warm... o_O

Is anyone else having problems after installing this?

I installed Watchdog Lite and the only thing it's complained about is the Android Forums app for using 20% of the CPU, while I was actively using the app.

I've removed it by looking through the zip and seeing what it installed, which was a bunch of init.d scripts, so I just deleted that whole folder and then replaced my build.prop with my backup. Rebooted into recovery, cleared cache and dalvik, just to be thorough. Case already feels cooler and battery is actually charging. We'll see how it does tomorrow.

I flashed last night. I definitely notice increased speed.. No more hitting the home button, only to wait 60 seconds for the home launcher to reload.
The battery drain is happening for sure. I'm off work today, but normally unplug around 5 am, use for music on my hour commute, text, read forums, and Facebook throughout the day...
Today, I didn't unplug until 10am, have only been reading articles.. And I must mention that I'm throttled, so no videos or streaming anything.
After almost 5 hours, I'm at 67%. With heavy use on a work day, I would just barely make it that low.
 
I've just realized that I lied about the launcher. I pressed home a second ago, and had to wait on it to reload. Which sucks when you're in a hurry to make a call.
So, to get rid of this, I delete init folder, replace build prop from backup, then clear dalvik and cache? Is that right?

That's what I did... Seems to be back to normal. At least the battery consumption seems normal now. Clearing dalvik may be unnecessary, but definitely clear the regular cache. (See next post as well)

Be sure to delete the init.d folder in the etc directory. If you want to keep init.d enabled, leave the files in the screenshot.
I reran the init.d enabler script after clearing out the mod and it put those back.
I also apparently semi broke root and had to reflash SuperSU.

Hmm, maybe I would have more fun flashing a new Rom... Not that there's a huge selection, but I've been on the regular z4 since it came out. What are you running?

Just zv4, self debloated. You could install StockWalk if you aren't worried about losing data. It's still just zv4, but it's not as stripped down as eduardogs ROM, although they removed the remote app for some reason, so save that and the quickset SDK apps. No other remote app will work.

None of the actual custom ROMs are really ready for daily use yet. They all still have sound, data or both issues.
 
That's pretty much what I had deduced from reading all the threads. I was keeping up with everything daily, but then the holidays and work took over.
This truly is the best phone for the price that boost has offered. I had an aquos for a day, and came back to the volt. If development ever gets anywhere with the aquos, I'd switch in a heartbeat.
Anyway, I'm a little add... Lol, I just followed the instructions to remove, and all seems well.

That article is quite the mouthful.. It's not really aimed at teaching, so much as informing the already familiarized Linux user. Another thing to consider is that init.d is not even enabled by default on Android.
 
I want learn Linux, but without a computer of any kind, I'm not sure how to. I would love get a Linux lapytop at some point to play with

I can't remember the last time I had a rom that didn't rely on it - maybe 2009 or 10. :p

Yeah - didn't mean to talk above the audience.

To learn this, learn it properly, otherwise you'll be forever confused.

Learning just Android or just Linux and trying to piece things together is like learning to drive and service only one type of car - it's better to at least read up on the whole field because the principles will gel faster and with far more foundation.

Sadly, too many devs learn the hard way - with mistakes that appear as deep mysteries, rather than obvious boo boos as becomes apparent with a good foundation.

Learn shell scripting. And never stop. I've been scripting *nix professionally for over 25 years and I'm still learning.
 
So i just edited a clean build prop with the same tweaks i posted at the beginning of the thread, only addition was a couple of dalvik tweaks. Now my pandora is freaking out. I skip one song, and it just keeps skipping for days, eventually stopping after sixty seconds or so
