Root Slightly overwhelmed with Rooting optioned

Great!

Though now I'm wondering, 3 zipped files? That made sense for CM7, but dGB has the Market, so other Google apps can be installed as needed, and hence you shouldn't need the gapps one.

Just took the plunge and I am now rooted, if I had known it was this easy would have done it months ago! Must say this thread has been really helpful, especially as erry asked most of the questions I needed to know the answers to and of course to all the people that answered the questions, i'll do some thanks button pressing. Now to install a custom ROM and I think i'm going to give dgb a go too .

Thanks for the advice on where to find the Thanks button - but I don't have it...I also don't have the 'quote' button...I'm guessing this is due to my lack of posts...so please bear me with me while I post a thanks until I get the option to thank direct on the post.

I'm still not convinced I know what I'm doing with this...another watch of the video...

I'm probably being a total numpty here and apologies if I am but I have a couple of questions regards ROMs. So I rooted today and flashed the dgb ROM but I only had the usual 148mb internal memory, do I need to do something extra to get the 350+mb that others have? Anyway so I decide to flash Gingervillain just to see what it's like plus if I'm correct it has the apps2sd+ built in however after installing a few apps and moving to SD i'm now getting a message popping up saying that I can't move the app as there's not enough room but I have over 5gb free on my SD card. I also still only have 148mb internal memory with Gingervillain is that right?

you need to read the thread
there are special hboots which need to be flashed to get the extra space.
you need s-off to do this
please read the guides regarding s-off for further information on how to achieve this and what it does.
its a little more than rooting

i'm in the same position, how hard is it to gain that extra space in the partition?

really liking dgb btw.!- hoping the battery improvements are there!

read above
dGB is a rom for advanced users for this reason.

I can see that now and have looked at the fastboot section and it definitely needs a bit more investigation, I rooted with revolutionary so am already s-off but i'll still need to do a bit of research. Would you be able to tell me why I'm getting the message saying I can't move apps to SD using gingervillain though as I thought that had apps2sd built in?

you also need to use the a2sd faq :P

not trying to be awkward but its all there.
you shouldnt be moving apps as if you have an ext partition its done behind the scenes and is not displayed as internal or external memory

I'm back, I'm afraid and I promise I have read through the faq plenty, my wife thinks I've lost it!! I'm either going mad or something odd has happened. When i first flashed Ginger Villain and installed quick system info, i could have sworn it gave me the app2sd info. i've since been playing around looking at other ROMs but decided to go back to Gingervillain for now however now the app2sd info is not showing up. Now unless I am wrong Gingervillain has darktremor built in is that right so why has app2sd suddenly stopped working? I'm beginning to think I may have bitten off more that I can chew with all this rooting malarkey to be honest. :o

you need to slow down.

have you used gparted to create an ext3 partition on your card?

Well I've got dgb running, and set up how I want it, but I've just got the normal apps2sd installed, and havent managed to get the extra space partitioned because like the poster above, its all starts getting a bit technical for me really, and I figure I've got this far without bricking it, so I'm gonna leave it there for now, thanks for everyone's help and patience!

Erry

you need to slow down.

I think that's the best advice so far:)

No I just realised I haven't done that after reading the faq again, I though that darktremor was an alternative to using gparted but now see that it's not that that i still need to create a .ext partition. Having said that I really do not understand the whole gparted and booting from a iso file as I think you need to know more than my quite basic computer skills.

As I rooted with revolution and have ClockworkMod can I use that to partition? from googling it seems I can but is it recommended?

no its not recommended and depending on clockwork mod you cannot
if you are not happy with the iso method you can create a virtual environment on windows with it

SUroot created a guide for use with vmware player which is free.

it works

Well, as promised I'm beginning the rooting method. Hot cup of steamy tea next to me and prepared to spend the afternoon getting to know my phone.

I'm sure I'll be posting soon begging for help!

I already appear to have a problem.

Doing the step by step guide provided by the unlockr.com, I can get as far as accessing Recovery, but when selecting "Mounts and Storage" I am greeted with the black background and blue REVOLUTIONARY logo. This happens when I try and select something else as well.

Any ideas anyone?

How do you select it? If you are in recovery, use the trackball.

Wow.

I feel like a tool. A very simple solution. Seems to have done the trick. I'll make sure I give a shout if I experience anything other difficulties.

Thanks Hadron.

are you using manu 1.4 havs axi kernel with min values set to 128mhz and a locked screen profile of 128min 256max?

I have no clue what you just said, If I was to use something like leedroid what that sort of thing be done automatically

My next project is the whole gparting thing
