Help Slow attachment retrieval using Handcent

Been using Handcent for a long time now. One thing that has always bothered me is when receiving an attachment via sms. Seems it takes a fairly long time to actually download the attachment to my phone. And this is while using my Wi-Fi connection at home. If someone sends me an attachment I click "Download" which changes to downloading but seems to me it takes entirely too long. What makes this slow down really stand out is every once in a while I get a 1k attachment which is just someones text message that I have to download rather than is showing up immediately as text. Something must happen in the process to convert it to SMS first when not really needed. But even the 1k attachment takes as long as 45 seconds to a minute to download.

I was curious what others were seeing in regards to this. I haven't tried to use the stock messaging app on the phone to see if it makes any difference. I can understand a little longer time if downloading over the air over 3G but my high speed connection at home is pretty fast. So I'm wondering if it just seems slower because the attachment is coming over the Handcent equipment or what.

i used to use handcent but it does seems kind of clunky and slow. not slow as in download speeds but as in choppy and it took a few seconds to load. i use go sms pro. i can send and recieve files with no problem. maybe try that.

FYI, these messages *never* go over wifi (with the exception of a setup like T-mobile UMA, or the range extenders that put calls and everything over wifi.) Text messages go over cellular (but not over a data connection.) MMS use a data connection over the cellular network, even if you have wifi connected. This is surely for security purposes, so any yahoo on the internet cannot just make their desktop claim it is your phone and send spam texts and such.
