Help Slow charging usb

MetroPOS13

Well-Known Member
Anybody else got this warning? It showed up on my spirit today and I've never seen that before. It was the stock metro charger.

While I'm mentioning chargers, with Metro phones do not use with a cheapo aftermarket charger. They are notorious for going loose if you use a universal prong charger lol. I used to run the warranty center in Ocala...and most of us won't warranty this issue.

I get it whenever I have allot of items plugged into the power outlet. And on the USB on PC and car charger.

The slow charging only happens when your connected to PC's & devices that have the older usb 2.0.

You must be using usb 3.0 to not experience the slow charge.

usb 2.0 power output up to = 500 mA
usb 3.0 power output up to = 900 mA

If this is happening to you on a wall outlet, then your circuit has to many things pulling power from it. Try switching to a outlet on a different part of the house that is on another circuit.

I buy stuff with ebay (since I have no credit card, just paypal  )

New Motorola SPN5400A Micro USB Rapid Car Charger for Droid x Bionic RAZR | eBay

never trust ebay

hey i said it first. he just copied me :p
What are you saying I copied?

My post is about usb power outputs which explains why some are having this issue. I never said anything about a car charger.

Maybe you're just joking and I'm taking it the wrong way. :D

Thanks for mentioning it only happened when too much was hooked up to the outlet!!! That was the issue...I had to much going on with my surge protector. I have a brand new laptop and I use the USB transfer cable from my Nikon. ..so I never had the issue with laptop.

Also, can't remember who said it, but I agree with Motorola chargers. I use them for car chargers because they aren't flimsy and I buy the one piece charger. Metro doesn't make any car chargers, and just because it is at a Metro store doesn't mean its good for your phone! They are there to make money!!

If you go to a Metro corporate store they have chargers with the Metro pcs logo on them. Hens metro pcs charger.;)

If you buy a phone from a Metro Corporate store, They charge you more for it than you'd get online or at an authorized dealer because they give you cheep accessories with it that have the Metro pcs logo on them.

The originally supplied charger with my Spirit is rated 1.0A. It charges without the "slow charging" warning.

I purchased a 4A Skosche wall charger which is rated 1.0A on each USB connection. Even with only the Spirit connected, I get the "slow charging" message. I'm using the USB cable which came with my Spirit (and which is used to connect to the supplied wall charger.)

I saw some comments about USB 2.0 vs. USB 3.0, but as far as I know, the Spirit uses USB 2.0.

I got that mesaage once, using a one piece LG charger that came with another phone (some cheap basic phone from Virgin)... and it turned out that i hadnt plugged it into the phone all the way. When i pushed the plug in properly, the message went away.

Putting a logo on it doesn't mean its OEM charger. The charger that comes with a metro phone is manufacturer specs, there isn't always a guarantee that one branded Metro will work as good. We used to order Metro branded car chargers from China to sell in our store..and they would rape your charging port till it was lose.

I've never seen a Metro Corp store though, so I can't say anything about their chargers. I live in the boondocks. I have worked for Metro in the past though, and I know when they switched all phones to micro usb, we had issues with different amounts of pins in certain chargers (all branded MetroPCS).

I never said anything about the spirit USB version.

If your PC has usb 2.0 you will get the slow charge message.

If your PC has usb 3.0 which outputs more power, you will not get the slow charge message.

My older PC has usb 2.0 and I get the message.

My newer PC has usb 3.0 and I don't get the message.

To be clear, you are saying that a USB 3.0 port will provide the higher voltage to a USB 2.0 device. Thank you for that clarification.

IT TURNS OUT THAT THERE'S A DIFFERENCE IN USB PINOUT BETWEEN VARIOUS DEVICES. According to Scosche, the USB pinout is different on Android devices from iPhones and the Scosche uses the iPhone pinout, so the LG Spirit will only charge at 0.5A on my shiny new (and expensive) 1A per USB port charger.

So, here's my question:

Is anyone aware of an adapter or a specialty USB cable which will adjust the pinout so that an Android device will charge more quickly on an iPhone-pinout charger

NOTE: I researched further and answered the question myself. Answer below.

Please note this has nothing to do with the different connector the iPhone uses. It is strictly a pinout problem. When I connect my LG Spirit to my Long March external battery, it charges at full speed.

I spoke again with Eric in tech support at Scosche. He was very helpful. He told me that this cable:
http://www.amazon.com/Naztech-Micro...134392&sr=8-1&keywords=naztech+charging+cable

will allow you to charge at the higher amperage on an Android when this pinout problem occurs.

I hope this is useful to others here who might have similar problems.

IF ANYONE IS AWARE OF OTHER CABLES OR USB ADAPTERS THAT RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, I BE CURIOUS TO KNOW ABOUT THEM AS THE CABLE LISTED ABOVE IS EXPENSIVE.
