Smilies on Keyboard

Hi All,

I have just updated to the DHD from HTC hero which was using the custom ROM VR12.

On this I had a key on the keyboard for smilies. Now that I am back to a stock ROM I do not have this feature. Is there anyway I can set this, any options etc. Its really longwinded picking menu, then more, then smilies?

Or do I need to apply a custom ROM again?

There is an app (Swiftkey keyboard) which has a button for smiley right there.
