Help SMS Bug Found

Users over at XDA have reported that text recipients are not getting the user's phone number as the callback. For example, if my number is 555-555-5555 and I text you, you get a text from string of numbers e.g. 0413243141243.

One user has reported that this is the SIM number. If it's the SIM number, it sounds like this would effect 4G areas only (I believe 3G doesn't use SIM in CDMA).

Can any of you confirm you're having the same problem?

Yes, I am having the same problem. Also, I sent a couple of texts to a friend with AT&T and she still has not received them. Not sure if this is related or not.

Yes, same problem here. Every time that I receive a text from my wife, it shows as a bunch of random digits, which appear to be the SIM number as you mention above. It's really annoying.

lol so nice that they delayed the phone for around 2 months and have this kind of bug. You'd think that would have been found and resolved... not like it's some odd thing that very few people do and would discover.

my brothers had this issue this morning. it was fixed within 2 hours.
actually, it was fixed right after he made a phone call... not sure that it had anything to do with it, but after he made a phone call it was texting people from his number not the sim number.
or it could just be the activation wait time type thing?

I had some issues with Handcent after installed it... then (I think) they cleared up. First it took forever to send a text to my girls phone.. only 1 outta 4 went through. 1 from Handcent... also tried 1 from the stock message app and it didn't go through.. I simply rebooted the phone and it was ok.

Also noticed that when I went to send a pic as a Handcent message to another person, the only other txt I had sent (to my girl) pulled up in the history of the new text I was sending to new person. Odd.. almost like that Android issue where txt's were getting sent to the wrong people.

Otherwise.. phone is much better than my Incredible and worth the upgrade.

Same issue here.
Called Verizon tech had me remove battery and said he changed something on his end. 1/2hour on the phone later and it works fine.

I have this issue with my phone still, so i called into verizon complained about it and boom got a $15 dollar credit to my account.

No they didn't actually, they said they have no idea what is going on with it and would call me around noon tomorrow. They said it's the craziest thing they had seen, and another problem I've had with this phone is the sales rep at the verizon store I went to did a back-up assistant on the thunderbolt and the contacts that showed up on the phone aren't mine. I literally do not know one person out of the 200 contacts now of my phone.

my problem is even though i got them to add my contacts, i still get my friends txting me and they're not under the contacts i have them as even though its the same #

My sister-in-law just got the Thunderbolt this afternoon (2nd to last one sold) and had the same SMS issue. I had her take out the battery and sim, and then put them back in and reboot. This fixed everything, no need to sit on the phone with VZW CSR.

Was having same issue and fixed it by adding the area code to the number I was texting. Had to go through and edit all of my local contacts. At least the ones that I text.

Hope this helps some of you.

My SMS were sending, but not being received. Rebooted the phone and now new messages are being sent and received. All cleared up here. No funny SIM card number business.

Earlier my sent texts were showing that they were from a weird number. I figured I'd call VZW when I got home but it seems as though the problem has cleared itself and my phone # is showing up as it should.
