Root SMS Error fix (s-off required)

I am on 61007 and it wont update it. So this new PRI fixes the signal issue not the error text problem?

I just flashed and here are my early findings.

You have to work a bit harder to overwhelm the text message (sms) system and the error you get is "plain text" now, saying that there is a delay. This was pretty much what I thought was happening all along, but instead of telling you something useful, they (stupidly) went with an error code.

Side bonus
Signal strength does seem more stable (works more like you expect), and a bit stronger too.

I'm not ready to recommend this to everyone yet,
give it a bit more testing, but at least we know it's not going to destroy your phone. If it does continue to show improvement, the next step will be to update to the Sprint ICS PRI (you have to go to this FIRST in order for that to work) and see how things react.

I don't think there was an update to PRI for Sprint with ics update. Will check into it.
There is, but it won't overwrite the section of the PRI that is giving us problems, so we have to switch to this, then we can switch to that.

-------------------------------------

Interesting development...
I figured I would clear my activation and then re-activate and see if things got any better (and see if we have any issues there). Activation took half as long. So far, everything looks and acts good.

I also did some looking, it seems the new radio isn't any good as the old one for some Sprint users.

I also noticed something else, when using a sprint prl before doing this, if I selected update PRL it would update and go back to the latest Virgin PRL. When I select update PRL with this PRI loaded it tells me there is not an update available. So I wonder if it will update to the latest Sprint PRL when it is updated in the future.

It says that on a stock phone once you have the latest as well (09?). I wouldn't read too much into it.

You may be right, but I may not be explaining it correctly. For example when I was on 60686 Sprint to try out the latest VM PRL (61009). All I had to do was select update PRL and it went back to the VM PRL. I did this multiple times to get back to stock PRL from other Sprint PRL's I was testing. However now when I select update PRL it does not go back to the VM PRL, it just stays on the Sprint one (60690). Could just be a coincidence, but I am interested to see what happens when either the next PRL comes out for either VM or Sprint. So how are you feeling about radios? I have not gone there yet because I am afraid that they will require the other firmware to be loaded. I could be wrong though. I am not so worried about going to the latest since from what I have read .97 seems to have been the best so far. If you would like to PM me maybe we could come up with something. Also what do you know about getting MMS working on CM? I know you were helping behind the scenes on the OV.

Ahh okay, hat makes sense.
Doesn't matter, I prefer the Sprint PRL's as they tend to work better for me, and that means manually flashing them.

Radios are independent, however, I have heard some say the older Sprint Radio is better than the new ICS radio.

Yeah from all the reading I have done, the older radios are better as well. Maybe I will tomorrow what I get to work to see if there is a way to pull our radio so that it is flashable before I try to flash a sprint radio. This morning I kind of jumped the gun because I was excited and just flashed the HBOOT instead of having a backup plan. I mean I knew that I could just run the RUU, but I would prefer not too.

The Sprint guys have everything in pieces from the VM rom, they picked it clean like a bunch of buzzards.

I can't imagine anyone doing such a thing.... :D

By the way, thanks to all of the testers and devs who got involved in this. Glad to see we all made it through safely and it seems to work good to boot.

That sounds like there should be a guide in the works
Our is there one and I just don't know about it yet?

That may be something that I tackle soon. I am still testing some and working on other things, too. I have sent this to a few people to test and install, if they would like to take that on, that would be awesome. LeslieAnn may want to just go ahead and add it to the OP of this thread. After all she found all the resources used to make this happen. I personally have not had any problems with the install and it has not effected my phone in any negative way. I would actually call it better after install and activation.

I'll do that shortly, thanks.

Flashed this. With my minimal amount of testing this seems wonderful. I'm getting double the 3g speeds I got at the same time yesterday. Signal isn't fluctuating like it was. Sent about 20 texts at once and they all went through rather quickly with no error. Called myself and it worked fine. Sent an MMS without problem. Great job guys!

Much thanks to all those involved! Now to go downgrade my hboot.
