I have recently upgraded from a HTC Wildfire to the HTC Sensation XE, as I hated the stock SMS on my wildfire I used Handcent which mainly worked fine, although towards the end there were a few problems which seemed to occur after updates. But is it able to give you a sms delivery notification?Try Go SMS Pro from the market mate, it's free and work an absolute treat. Its what i use

Yes icon appear's in the notification are at the top of the screen and the message will also appear within the screen without even opening the Go SMS app itself.
